Hi guys.
Im going to ask Neil Burridge to go ahead and make that Hallstatt C. Mindelheim sword for me and Ive got a couple kinda random questions. What are some of the styles of hilts used on bronze swords. I know its not historical but I was thinking that I might try to make a hilt thats a little more comfortable and easier to use. Im asking this because, while I dont know for sure since I havent held it, the pommels on a lot (including the Mindelheim) look like they would get in the way and bite into your hand during a swing and, since they're round, it looks like to me that a handshake grip wouldnt help because it wont move your hand out of the way. Like I said, I dont know for sure thats what It looks like to me.
Also, I was thinking of making a solid leather scabbard (I like leather better than wood) and making the cover that goes on the end of the scabbard out of wood instead of metal and making a rain gaurd for it so there would be no collar. What do you guys think of this??
Thanks, I always love a professional input -Logan
