The Elven king sword is, in my opinion, quite good looking. My girlfriend, however, thinks that its boring and plain, since she was expecting fancy engravings and the like.
I found that quite annoying, so i've decided to make it a bit more interesting. Firstly, I was given a set of leather vambraces for my birthday with a cool leaf design on them. I think I'll copy that design and have it engraved on the blade, on either side of the fuller. At the base of the fuller, I'll have a sun engraved on one side, and a moon on the other. I think the sun/moon and leaves theme is quite elvish, so should match the style of the sword. I'll also have it polished to a mirror shine, as the factory polish is average at best.
I am acquainted with a blacksmith who enjoys metal sculpting and artwork, so I think I'll get him to actually do the engraving and polishing. I hope he makes sure the blade doesn't get too hot, since the temper is perfect at the moment and I don't want to ruin it.
If he says that he can't engrave the blade for whatever reason (the steel being too hard, for example), I'll get him to engrave the crossguard and pommel instead, as its brass and should be easier to engrave.
Finally, I think the scabbard is dull as dishwater. I'm going to commission a chap from a website called "traveller in black" (I don't know the full address off the top of my head) to make me a leather scabbard for slinging the sword from my back. I'll use the brass throat and cap from the gen2 scabbard to tart it up.
I'll post pics as soon as all this is done. The sword should finally look as Elvish as it deserves.

Hey Matt Have you seen my leaf design acid etching I did? It's here: /index.cgi?board=swordcustom&action=display&thread=1181964757 If you want some directions for trying it, let me know.
Regarding slinging it across your back, I don't know how easy it will be to draw having such a long blade. But good luck with the work and take heaps of photos through the process for us. Great Ideas.

heres the link /index.cgi?board=swordcustom&action=display&thread=1187715783
heres a Link to making a sword belt suspension system if you want to try and were it that way /index.cgi?board=swordcustom&action=display&thread=1181275740&page=1

Watch this space. did you download the fonts first? as to translation, the site i posted only transcribes ie changes the alphabet used to write it, for elvish translation look in the back of a copy of the silmarilion for some root words for creating sword names or google elvish dictionary or tranlator there are some good ones out there

Where do you get them from? I looked in the back of The Silmarillion, but couldnt make any words that I thought looked either really original, or really good. I'll have a good look around

Just sent the swords measurements off to the scabbard making chap. It will be leather, with a pleasant silvered leaf design (quite elven, don't you think?), and some fancy belt straps.
Also, during my trip to dorset I came across a little shop dealing in fossils and semi precious stones. I found and bought a small ring of a red stone called 'Carnelian' which, according to the little card was used in times gone by to 'banish evil'. Since in the Silmarillion, swords are often referred to as having jewelled hilts set with stones, I was thinking of attaching this ring to the pommel, since it is just the right size to sit around the nut (where the tang is peened). I think this would suit the LOTR theme nicely. My only problem is how to actually attach this ring to the pommel. Anyone have any ideas?

I hope it isn't a sin here to bring back to life old topics, but I'm really curious to see how you made out with this project! It is a sword very much after my own heart.
