The only sword's I hear good things about are the practical line. Sadly, I don't know of anyone who can give you first hand experience with these particular swords, but I'll look around and see if I can find some information for you.

I own a few Paul Chen European: The Albrecht, the Godfred, the Cromwell and the Basket hilt broadsword. The last two are fantastic swords. I have done some light cutting with them and they performed very well. The Cromwell is actually one of my favorite sword because of the balance on it.
I don't think that the swords in the practical series are the only "good" Paul Chen European product. I have used all of them (except the damascus Godfred) and they preformed well for light cutting. I never tried heavy cutting of blade to blade (not a lot of people do, particularly if the swords are sharp or semi-sharp).
I guess want I want to say is if you like the Scottish basket hilt back and broad swords, you should give them a try, I did, and I have no regrets.

I don't know about the paul chen baskethilt, but when i handled one awhile back it felt the same as my Cold Steel Basket hilt, which is to say sluggish and heavy. That being said...
Cold Steel redesigned their basket hilt and while I haven't handled it personally, when I talk to people who have, they say it balances much much much better than it did, and if it's half as sturdy as mine, it'd give Gen2 a run for their money on durability.
Probably the best Basket hilt on the market that can be found for <$300 I'd say. Then again, take that with a grain of salt since I haven't handled the new one personally.

I think I'm gonna stick with the Cold Steel Basket Hilt. Even if the handling is potentially spotty, I don't want to risk having my sword spontaneously disassemble. And that Gen2 comparison just tipped the scales. I saw the test cutting promotional video Cold Steel did for the Basket Hilt, and it didn't seem to terribly impressive. I guess the other swords tested were much heavier...
