Hello everyone this is my follow-up review of my other purchase from SwordOfTheEast.com. And that is the Musashi Ceremonial Tanto.
Intro:
For a while now I've wanted a Hira Zukuri style Tanto. Many tanto's in the price range that is ideal for me are basically Paul Chen Hanwei Practical Plus Tanto style. I was delighted when I noticed Musashi had what I was looking for at a more than reasonable price of $79.99 and with 2 day shipping SwordsOfTheEast's value is hard to beat!
Let's begin...
Musashi Ceremonial Tanto
The tanto comes in a red embroidered dragon box which is basically the same as my Musashi Tempest Katana, only it is a much smaller variation.
Inside is the following:
Tanto
Sword Bag
COA
Tassel
Please note that I ordered this tanto last week(Monday the 12th, and received it Wednesday the 14th), and I had no knowledge of Musashi's questionable COA's but I was made aware of it right as I saw it.
As you can see my purchase does not fit the description, nor does it look like it. The Musashi Asuka Tanto review can be found here to give people the right idea:

In any case I do not own the Asuka Tanto, and feel I have an otherwise useless COA. But anyway lets continue:
Here is the tassel, it by itself is a work of art! It features a nice web design, with some beads, a jade sculpture, and tassel itself. This fits on the tanto where a saggeo would normally go, and while it does fasten quite easily, it is not tight, and needs to be tightened every so often, I find this quite annoying, but it is not a huge deal .
Here is the tanto itself, as you can see it had a black lacquer finish, a single peg, and of course the dragon decoration. This thing is beautiful! it should be noticed I tried to disassemble the Tanto but could not, the nakago is most likely held together by alot of glue, so I decided to abandon that endeavor.
Blade
The blade is a sharpened carbon steel blade. Unfortunately the denomination is not mentioned, but if I had to guess I'd say it is more than likely 1045 Carbon Steel.
The blade features a pseudo hamon, that actually fades quite nicely from the angle below.
As you can see even though the hamon is fake it fades quite nicely unlike several other swords in this price range.
The kissaki is wire brushed, and looks very ideal for stabbing, which is to be expected since the Tanto is a stabbing weapon.
I am not sure if this picture captures the blades polish the way I want, but it has a very nice polish for the price! In fact if somebody was to sneak up on you, you could see their reflection in this blade.
Overall I am very impressed with the look and blade of this tanto!
Cutting
Unfortunately as I mentioned I have no bottles . What's worse is I actually tested this Tanto on some light targets such as cardboard, and bottles. The Tanto had no problem stabbing through both targets. When it came to test it's slashing capability, I honestly think if you do not have the right angle you will send the bottle flying, I was able to cut 2/4 bottles with a slash, but I still have yet to figure out the right angle. I was originally going to photo the bottles which I put away in a bucket in my garage last week, but unfortunately they were thrown away . But I stand by the capability this sword posseses!
Conclusion
Overall if you're looking for a traditional looking tanto, that is both a work of art, and has the fully functional capability look no further!
Pro's
Beautiful Design and Decorative Design
Comes with a nice tassel that compliments the Tanto
Fully Functional
Reasonably Priced
Light and Handles Very Well
Con's
COA is useless
Tang is most likely held together by glue, making dissassembly impossible.
Overall I am very happy with my purchase and reccomend this Tanto!
