???I don't really know if this will be of interest to anybody, but a company called Samurai Saga on EBay are selling bare Tsuka. These are 11", glued and supplied with 2 mekugis but without any other fittings. I think they are the base form for many of the chinese katana Tsuka. I bought three several weeks ago to play with, but I got them for far less each than they are charging now! However of the three, one is very good, one is mediocre and one is poor, I judged this by the knots in the wood and the grain pattern, no other criteria. I cut the poorest one open using a combination of a dremel and a stiffed back modelling saw. The stiff back saw was by far the better tool for the job and if I had used that on its own then the tsuka could easily be re glued. I wish to make a new Tsuka for my cheap and cheerful sword and by cutting open a bare Tsuka I get most of the shaping done, all I have to do is fit it properly to the Nakago and drill it to match the Mekugi. When I get the time I'll get on with it and post the results. Graham

Do they have varying sizes and dimensions and materials? Thanks for the heads up, though.

I've only seen 11" so far, but they are very helpful, email them and ask what they can get. As for wood, it was white, a hardwood and erhh, dunno! I know my dremel saw blade didn't like it a lot but the handsaw cut it easily and cleanly. Graham

Don't worry swordreaper, they are a bit pricey on some of their stock. $AUS12 + post. for 2 brass seppa, I think not ;D. Their tsuba seem priced about right though. You would think with the demand there would be others offering the same mass market koshirae that samurai saga do, but at drastically cheaper prices.
