Excellent review (and congrats on the weight loss; I'm a little envious). I've been wanting this sword for the longest time because it makes me think of a pseudo-fantasy/medieval-European styled katana/dao combination. Plus, I recall hearing that it was based off of the Heron Mark sword from the Wheel of Time series and, while I've never read the books, I've seen the Windlass version and loved it, but got put off by poor reviews. +1 from me.

Thanks Chris.
Little concerned that you mention in passing that the guard fitting is a bit "loose"?
At 2.5 lbs that should be a one handed screamer of a saber. Visually it's nothing that would fit in my collection, but you certainly have peeked my interest in the weapon.
Thanks for the report. Enjoy the sword ;D

Nice review for a beautiful sword. If it weren't dark outside I feel the urge to go chop some bottles after watching that!
Cheers,
Rob

Great review and cutting... +1! I love that your cutting stand set up is like mine. I'm in the same camp with you on this sword... when I first saw it I didn't know what to think... I like sabers, but had nevers een a two handed one and didn't like it right off the bat. After some time the weapon became very attractive to me... but I still was not sure how to use a two handed saber... like a big katana? I really like the look of them now... but recently aquired an older Atrim two handed saber and look forward to messing with that.. so its unlikely I'll get one of these, but I do really like them now.

It is growing on me, it has alot of 15th C Venitian sabre influence in it ........ I will likely get one down the track.

Hah, it's same with me as it was with you and shadowhowler. This review makes it grow even more on me. I think I have to get one of this. At first I had in mind to ask about the structural integrity but when I think about the involvement of Mr. Lundemo and VA I don't think I have to worry 'bout that one. (Especially since I discovered the blade of my VA Longsword is capable of more than I've thought)

Glad to see another reveiw on this one. Also glad to see it in use, with plenty of room to swing, as I've not been able to do that yet. Do you find the grip to be comfortable? I have found that with mine it doesn't want to be held, and swung how I hold it, and it slips just a tiny bit. Not the grip, but the whole blasted thing, and it is quite an unnerving feeling. This is more of a problem with me that the sword though. And I agree that it might be the shape of the blade preventing a tight fit in the scabbard, though I am glad to hear that yours does not fall out. Everything aside, I love the sword, even if i am planning to have CSS rehilt it with a less angular grip.

Thanks for the comments everyone.
This sword is pretty much one off for me. Usually I either like or dislike a sword at first sight. It's just something that eithers clicks for me or it doesn't. And that's it. This is the first sword that did not click at first but something did eventually. And I am glad it did.
davekelly: Honestly, the movement of the guard only happens when I twist the grip with both hands. I wouldn't have even noticed it if I wasn't trying to disassemble it and had a problem getting the grip off (I blame that on the high humidity we've had for the last month or so). There is no movement or even rattling of the guard during drills or cutting. It's like that old joke: Patient: Doc! It hurts when I do this. Doctor: Don't do that.
Raze, I actually really like this grip. It fits nicely in my hand with no slipping. Grips are an odd thing. What suits one person may not be good for another. Personally I wouldn't change a thing about the grip.
