So I've got a nice little pile of assorted blades from the Albion moat sale here that I've been slowly working on as time allows. This first one is kind of a no brainer for those of you who've seen my previous work. The blade arrived as an un-heat treated, machined blank with about 1/8" of edge still on it. The fuller was already ground so that was a big time saver. I did the heat treating and finish grinding and had to do some re-shaping of the ricasso area as the parts I made aren't to the exact same dimensions as the original. It appeared as though the end of the tang was meant to be shaped down and threaded so that the pommel could be screwed on? I'm not a fan of screw on pommel construction but the tang wasn't long enough to extend through the pommel to be hot peened, so instead the pommel is keyed to the 1 1/2" long by 3/8" wide end of the tang with the very end slotted to fit over the width of the entire tang, and then tig welded. The guard is peened to the tang. The grip is red oak and is pinned through the tang and epoxied. The grip wrap is leather cord. Cross and pommel are bronze. A butt load of hand sanding and a bit of etching and the blade turned out pretty nice. Specs: overall length 38 1/2 inches weight 6 pounds POB 3 1/2 inches from where the leather wrap begins Not for sale

As with all your swords, it is a real work of art.

Thats Amazazing! I really think the reshaping of the ricasso actually improves the overall look of the sword. Is that possible? Actually improve the beautiful Atlantean? I think you did. +1

I love your Atlantean swords BB... I hope to someday get one of the ones with your and Brenno's work in it. Awesome. Out of curiosity, why is this one not for sale?

Glad you like it RicWilly Thank you KingRat Thanks a lot Margshus ;D When I was doing the design for the Atlantean I made a while ago, I kept looking for areas where I could shave off weight. I slimmed down that area and gave it a bit more inward curving to both cut a bit of weight and make it a better fit it you were to wrap your hand around it (not that you really ever would with such a short blade). Nice that you find that little change visually appealing as well Also, I never cared for the meaningless inscription, I like the etching to actually say something. Thanks shadowhowler I still have the one that I put together with Brendan's blade kicking around. There are a couple reasons that I'm not selling this one. They had a whole mess of these blades for sale when I got this one and two others, I thought for a moment about getting several more but figured I would leave them for other people to pick up and play with. One of the other two blanks has a slight flaw in the fuller and the third one will need quite a lot of work to be usable. Since I don't yet have a large belt grinder, I can't currently do hollow grinds from scratch. I can finish them once they're started, but not make them from a bare blank. So for now, this particular blade is somewhat irreplaceable. Also, I just think it's kind of cool to have an Albion blade that I heat treated and finished, so I planned on keeping this one for myself. That's it sanmarc! "what was lost" and "will be found". It's the same inscription I put on the one with the blade that I made, except this one is in embellished runes rather than hieroglyphs. I have a few different moat blades I'll be finishing up in the not too distant future. Some of those will be available if anyone wants them, or if not those specific swords, similar ones could always be made. The various moat blades offer me a nice way to experiment with different fittings on different blades without having to make a bunch of different blades from scratch.

As always, Jeff - F'ing awesome! The new ricasso works! And that guard is really a step up... original design elements masterfully executed. Any chance for a few real-close-up shots of the guard?
My hats off to you, Bro!

Hardy har Brendan Nah, My girlfriend and I met my mother out in Yellowstone National Park for a week. Nice and cool out there. Thanks Nial Yeah, those moat blades were a sweet deal. Well some of them were, they had some real crap in there too but there were plenty of diamonds in the rough. The trick is getting a good one, or just getting enough that the good ones made up for the bad ones (that's what I did). I got several good blades and a few fantastic ones that easily made up for the lemons. Thanks Glenville86 ;D I'm pretty fond of it too Second moat blade is up now in the manufacturers section
