Looks pretty good. Not legal for SCA use as is due to the openings along the jaw between the visor and the aventail, though. Just thought I'd point that out.

I've owned that helmet. You have to do ALOT of work to it to get it functional: I added a riveted maille aventail, chinstrap, visor locking strap, and liner. I got the liner from Steel Mastery and the aventail from Ice Falcon. You have to make the leather aventail attachment and vistor & chin straps yourself. I brought the aventail all the way up to my nose level to eliminate the problem Taran spoke; I made it safe as anyone could make it. I also drilled in two more rows of small viewing holes beneath the eye slots so I could see downward without needing to tilt my head down. All in all, I had somewhere in the area of 8 hours+ of work into it after I bought it. I do not recommend the CAS aventail. It's butted, and it will drop rings left and right over time. You'll just end up doing more work in the long run if you don't get riveted one. Ice Falcon has them for very reasonable prices. Don't get me wrong, it's a good, solid helmet for the coin. You'll just need to invest some time, money, and materials into it to make it functional and safe.

Mine originally had a brown-felt liner, but I have seen them with white leather ones. The stock liners are very thin, have no padding, offer no protection, and only act as a cover to keep the inside of the helmet from rusting. Those serve as a barrier between the liner and the helm itself. The helmet is made to have a real liner installed at some point over top of the existing internal cover. Here is what a real liner looks like: steel-mastery.com/index.php?&model=product_detail&category_id=39&parent_id=17&product_id=84Now, this liner will stitch right over the existing liner. The GDFB helm is correctly punched around the edges, so installing this padding is pretty easy. Just get some waxed thread and a quilting needle and stitch it in. Rivet your chinstrap to the little leather pieces by the ears BEFORE installing the liner. The bascinet needs to fit VERY TIGHTLY on your head, with no play whatsoever in order to give proper protection as it was intended. If it's the slightest bit loose and you get hit in the head, it's gonna clean your clock. As tight as you can tolerate it is a good guideline - so if you shake your head, the helmet does not wobble all over the place.
