I have recently started acquiring some Cheness swords to add to my collection. As I have been purchasing swords mostly for aesthetics rather than raw durability, I opted to buy the differentially hardened series over the monosteel versions. Currently I own the Kanbai and Kaze of which I am greatly pleased by both.
The natural hamon of the Kaze is stunning and already exhibits a fairly good polish (although photos of re-worked Kaze's I've seen here on SBG are very impressive). The hamon on the Kanbai is more subtle and I would like to see if it is possible to bring it out with some type of hybrid polish or etching. I am new to customizing and I was wondering if anyone has attempted such a polish job on the Kanbai. If anyone has any experiences with trying this I would love to hear any potential advice or testimonials.
As I am new to this any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanx

heres a polishing tute by smith Terry Raw, the fingerstones are the secret, I had done a hybrid polish on a blade up to 2000grit paper, Terry took it and redid it with the stones and difference is amazing. www.ausblade.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=55

Thanx for the assist. Very good info on both sites. Has anyone here tried a hybrid polish on any of the cheness swords yet? I am still a little gun shy on screwing up the geometry especially along the ridge line or inducing symmetry problems. I think I might want to practice on one of my lower end swords first. It wont do anything for the fake hamon on say a masahiro but at least I can hone the technique first. I guess I will have to look for a good set of stones first though. Anyone know where I can pick up a set? Actually I think I remember reading a post somewhere here about that. I will try and search. Again thanx for the assist. p.s. Ronin do you before and after pics of your polish, if so you should post them. It would be cool to see the difference.
