Hi folks, just received the Huawei custom kats today, pictures of the bare blade can be found here: /index.cgi?board=japaneseswords&action=display&thread=16429 the requested specs: -T10 steel -clay tempered with hamon -shinogi zukuri shape -O-KISSAKI -big sori -2/3 bohi -full same wrap -tsuka alternate wrapped measurements: full lenght: 101cm/ 40" blade: 72cm/ 28 1/4" tsuka: 28cm/ 11" sori incl. the tsuka: about 7cm/ 2 3/4" balance point: 12cm/ 4 3/4" is chose a tiger theme with a brown silk, full black same wrap with the shiny brown lacquered saya compared to a normal kat : paid 250 $ the bad first: - kissaki needs polishing - sageo needs to be replaced - could (must) be sharper... the good: -... but with the brutal geometry it will work - nice natural hamon - alternate tight wrap - no rattle at all, fittings saya - good balance - price - curved nakago maybe ? What i like about Huawei kats is the balance, it gives you a very pleasant, controlled feel every time you swing. Sadly i sprained my left wrist, so no cutting for now, but even with one hand - awesome ! At the end, i would not buy it again - not because they suck, its just not katana like, but also i wouldn't sell them, they are a nice addition to my collection, dont think to many people have these...

congrats man, looks like you are happy enough with those large sori kats,... btw I have one too, unfortunately I'm not happy with it, a custom one from Sinoswords. Paul has right when he said that the chinese forges do not put too much effort into one single order, lesson learned, ....so from now I'll stay with production katanas and trusty traders.

Hey man, great review and +1 from me for it. However, when'd you get your Sinosword? Apparently they've reeeeally cleaned up at least since Nov/Dec, when two of our members (szabla being one who did a review) had GOOD experiences with them. So it just seems weird Ah well

Kaiyo,
That is one WICKED kat! I love it! As I said before, I'm talking to them now about my "tweaks" to make it mine, and seeing yours mounted is making my mouth water! It'll be a while until I can afford it, but I can look at your great pics in the mean time! Thanks for sharing with us. I would be interested in an update about how it sharpens up, too.
+1 for boldness!

I took the plunge and ordered 2 of them with the 1.5 sori. Mine will be no hi with a couple changes from what you bought. Will be awhile before they are done. These are really cool blades!!

Is it just me, or does it look like the counter polish was done with a dremel while drunk?

He-he, katana or banana? I'm also fascinated bout these high sori kats, but I don't think I'll get one, if so more a tachi type. The colour scheme on the brown one is beautiful. Congrats on a couple of unusual swords.

That is such a nice sword you have there! The only thing I would change is to get rid of bohi (I'm a bohi-hater )

Wow, that is a 'hugh jass' sori. Absolutely awesome. Do agree that it needs a curved nakago though. Would make it look 'right'. Lookin' slick though, man. Congrats! I'm kinda jealous now.
