Anyone know anything about the steel United is using on this one? I really like the overall appearance of the sword, which is strange as I generally am not attracted to fantasy pieces.... I think I'll pick up a copy, though I may go with the 1060 instead of the Damascus....Thoughts?

Um, there IS no 1060 version; it's 1045 or 'damascus'. The 1045 version seems to be worth the price, though... I don't know anything about the damascus edition except that it looks cool and my expectation is that it wouldn't be that durable (cheap pattern welded/folded steel, blegh. ), but I may be completely wrong. Hopefully, better informed persons will decide to comment as well, but until then, that's all I've got. Just my $0.02, of course. HTH, Slayer

One supplier lists it as 1060, not 1045 like all the others....assumed they new what they were talking about. Should have known better.

If you're buying it for a display, get the pattern welded if you like the look. If you want to use it, go for the monosteel version, as it will be a safer bet.
Edited to add: I find this to be a really cool design myself. If I get it I'll be picking up the 1045 version.

I own the monosteel 1045 carbon model... excellent for the $$$. i agree with slayer about damascus model... damascus steel nowadays is a misnomer, not to be taken lightly. pattern welded steel can be good if done right.... IF... but if done wrong can be full of stress points tat could be fatal flaw to the blade, or user.
if you like the design, and want to use it, go for the 1045 monosteel model. even tho some consider it a fantasy katana, it reminds me of a han dynasty type jian, with a katana styled handle. of course i am CMA practitioner, so i am prejudiced on that part.

I placed an order for the 1045 version last week (KOA was out of stock, so it should ship in about a week or so).
Mainly out of curiosity, and because I wanted something unusual in my budding collection. I'll post my impressions once it arrives!
Oh the sweet agony of waiting on the delivery truck...
