For a coat of plates, you don't wants brass. WAY too expensive and not durable enough. And getting it in sufficient thickness will be bloody near impossible. Any machinist worth his salt can get you the bronze you need, if that's the way you want to go. I don't know how thick you'll want it, though. And it'll cost an arm and a leg. Maybe 2.
Besides, the metal isn't going to be showing much anyway. It'll be under the leather. Now, some brass washers to go around the heads of your rivets to keep them from cutting the leather... And you can get those at Lowes or Home Depot or another hardware store.
If you Really want to do a brass armour, then change your mind and go with scale or lamellar. You can find the appropriate thickness in scrap baseplates. You know, for fitting around the base of kitchen cabinets. Also might be called kickplate. It'll still cost a fortune, even in scrap, but it'll be the right stuff.
Before you get started, I highly recommend going to an SCA event and checking out the varieties of armour there. Ask questions about it, how it moves, why they chose it, how well it protects, that sort of thing. SCAdians are more than willing to answer questions.
