I finally broke down and made one of the Gen 2/Legacy Arms Roman Waisted Gladius Swords my own. www.imperialweapons.com/RM/IP-023-2.html It was a toss up between this and the one made by Windlass www.imperialweapons.com/RM/500360.htmlI like the blade shape on the Windlass, but the grip (made of plastic) would be something I would have definitely taken off and replaced with wood and maybe a leather wrap. Having both in stock and in my hand at the same time.....the Windlass just can't beat the solid feel of the Gen 2. It has a certain amount of heft to it, yet still has great balance and a very very sharp edge. If I had to go back in time the Gen 2 Gladius would definitely be the one I would take with me. It makes me want to put a Roman kit together just so I have an excuse to wear it at events.

I agree I'd take the Gen2 over the Windlass for function.
A while back a friend from work wanted a gladius for a Halloween costume and I lent him my Windlass mainz because it was closer to authentic and a prettier all around package ie; scabbard and baldric.
However, as you say, Jason, if I was actually going someplace where I'd use it, the Gen2 would be an easy choice. Definitely more go than show to it, tho personally I like utilitarian look of it.

Great sword, I love it. Solid and user friendly. Had to do a little sharpening on mine though.

Just finished cutting some bottles with mine. I am going to touch up the edge a bit. I was able to cut fine with it, but my cousin from England was having difficulty. He could get the thinner walled water bottles, but the gator aid bottles were going flying. His primary problem was edge alignment, but I do think a sharper edge will make the cutting easier for him.
