Hello all- A Question I have.... I'm interested in the VA AT 304S practical longsword at KOA. In the reviews I've read in the index, I've noticed the slotted-nut construction on the pommel. The newest ones I guess are hex-nut, but the one I want (the plain jane black-handle version) definitley has a slotted-nut. My question would be is there anybody who has attempted to find a hex-nut that would fit the tang for the slotted-nut model?

I would think that all the nuts will fit the same tang. It wouldn't make sense from a production standpoint to change the width of the threads when you switch over from slotted to hex.
But, you could always shoot Sonny a PM, he frequents these forums and has always been good about responding to my questions in the past.

KoA's pics must be old; ALL VA 304S Longswords have been switched over... the slotted nut is no longer used by them. For extra confirmation, give Sonny a call, but I'd be willing to bet my Windlass Arming sword that KoA has sold out of both first AND second gen 304S's, and is on their third supply by now (only the first run, which was inferior and had a diamond profile instead of lenticular, had the slotted nut).
Rest assured, you should get the good stuff. ;D

What Slayer said. ALL second generation stuff has the hex nut, so you should be good.

"Inferior" is not a term that I would apply to them. In fact I'm glad I have them, they are now a highly functional rare matched set. A pleasure to use as I was just yesterday, and just as badass as the day I got them I'd add.

Thanks fellas. KOA should update their photos and information, though I still like their products. That one is definitely on my to-get list. I like the breakdown capability of it. It just begs for customization, but looks darn fine even plain. Thanks again for the updates!

^So very true, sorry for the misstatement, old friend. Correction; the 1st gen VA's were DIFFERENT in such a way that most prefer the newer editions. The 1st Gens COULD therefore be called 'inferior', but only in the sense that the newer moedels have been updated; the old VA 303 and 304 are still far superior to Windlass and other brands. Now are you happy, Ric? ;D I happen to have a CT303S from the 1st gen here from Ebon Paladin for a scabbard rewrap, and it's QUITE nice, I like it. I still think the stats of the 2nd gen are more to my tastes, but I'd happily pay $200 for that sword as-is. -Slayer

Agreed, on both subjects. ;D Inferior was a poor choice of words, I simply re-used it to illucidate. The VA304S is simply amazing... and customization is limitless, you can get different colors, different fittings or modify the current ones, and different grip shapes... most such changes are even complimentary! Sonny rocks. ;D -Slayer

Just ordered a VA AT Practical Long sword. Am going to upgrade the mountings when it arrives. Good deal... I prefer the VA Arming Sword... cuz its so light and nimble... and because for me the VA LongSword is just a tad too small in the grip... but the Longsword is still a GREAT weapon and perfect for people who don't have huge paws.

I believe that someone here, Odingaard maybe, found some hex nuts that are used on fencing rapiers that will work on the Valiant and Hanwei blades also
