getting some practice woodworking by tapering the wood for my new spear. Better that I start off with some experience first. I've never worked with wood before, but I've done a great job on the spear

One way to make a scabbard I've read is to basically cut out your shape from thin but sturdy bits of wood. Then around the edge of one of those bits put a spacer of some kind on there. This is so when you put the other piece of wood on the other side the sword should fit in smoothly. Now all you need is some wood putty to create a round edge on the sides of it and viola...a basic scabbard you can now cover with leather and whatever else you feel like to make it your own.

Hey brenno, yes I've seen Christian's work. He is a very skilled guy and very respected in the sword business.
I've seen those pictures as well, but thanks for posting them, they helped me a lot!
I've going to have to postpone work on the core for a while until I get proper tools. I'm doing things a little sloppy with a chisel.

Hey Rammstein. We just finished a few scabbards and didnt take any pcis. HOWEVER we will be doing within the next week. So, when we start it ill take pictures and let my "scabbard guy/partner" post em up on here and let him tell you how he did it. He makes some amazing wooden scabards. When he does that ill throw on some pics of my letaher ones. HOPEFULLY that will be able to help you a bit so you can visualize better the different steps and what not.
The leather is easier than the wood, but I personally like the way wood looks. Check out tandy for some leather working tools such as lace punches, awls and thread. Also Brettunsvillage.com is a very good site, Im good friends with the owner and hell treat you right.
