Custom Shobu Zukuri By John LundemoThis is my story I have always had a passion for the Japanese culture and like most with the same minding i started martial arts and as i progressed i found that the katana was my weapon of choice. So i spent my day’s practicing proper technique, stance and so on, but something was missing i needed to learn not just how to use the sword but the in’s and out, like proper the terms for all the parts, how to do the ito-maki ,how to make a tsuka etc... Most of my learning was on mass produce swords out of china. But you can only go so fare in your education with swords of this quality so i decided to take a step up and buy myself a properly made custom sword from a reputable smith.I came across a site many of you know already SFI, in there i found a smith that stood out from the rest .... That man is John Lundemo. He just seem’s like the kind of guy that has a enormous passion for his art not because it paye’s the bill but for the achievement of creating a product he can be proud of and bringing happiness to the people that buy his works of art. So i saved up as much as i could and emailed John to see what he could make me in my price range. With only a few request like the Sori, nagasa, and nakago i left the rest up to him. This is the out come
Spec’s Sori: 22.37 Nagasa: 27 ¼ inc Nakago:10 inc Kasane:5.81mm Mihaba: A huge 35.65mm Blade Style: Shobu Zukuri Hamon : Notare with lots of Hataraki Boshi: Omaru I’ll be mounting the blade in the next few month so keep a eye out.T’ill then i cant say much about the handling characteristics but i can say it is surprisingly light and has a fluid fell to it so much so that if your in the market for a custom sword be Japanese or euro Mr John Lundemo is the man to see.
Thank’s for looking and i hope this humble review guides you to buying your first Odin

Thanks for the karma Mark your reviews are top notch you have a great ease with describing these wonderful works of art.Oh and yes john is a very easy going ,down to earth kind of guy,He's old school and was a certain way about him that make you feel like you have known him for year's.This is the reason why i chose him for this project. Now the first thing is to find or make a habaki for this monster it has a very Nanboku-chô feel to it.

Please keep up the good pics so we get lots of before and after shots please. I think I might have a cut from just looking at that thing! ;D
Congratulations on owning a piece of history! Thank you for sharing it with us.

I know it is a little impolite to ask how much it costs but I just can't help myself. so how much is it? between 1 K-2K? between 2K-3K? you just say which is nearer and I won't bother you with such questions again ;D by the way, good review and very nice blade, +1 (that is when I recharge and I remember it

By the way the blade was water quenched Aldo 1095 fine grain steel, which is far supperior to regular 1095. It started out straight and now has the natural curve from the heat treat. The blade was also tempered and is tested to be the hardest possible and very tough and has tons of spring so will not take a set in cutting. The best steel I ever used for this type swordblade. I use this stuff on all my Japanes styled blades nowdays. The thickness started at 3/8th and after shaping is 5/16th at shinogi and Machi with lots of distal taper in blade and nakago lotta work I tell ya;)

I never thought I'd get a katana worth more than $300-400, but seeing these custom Odinkatana is slowly corrupting me. No, I MUST STAY WITH EUROS! I Must! ;D Good work, man, keep it comin'. -Slayer
