I recently fixed up/customised my VERY FIRST SWORD. I got it when I was 12, and it had a rat tail welded on tang that had broke off inside the handle, and has sat in the sheath ever since. I ground down alot of the guard to refit a handle, ground down the handle to fit, reforged a small steel end cap for the butt end of the tang, then welded it on. The handle had split down the middle when I was hammering on the buttcap, so I wrapped it tightly in leather lace, and it is now VERY solid. I sharpened it a few days ago, it is now in better than brand new condition, I cannot wait to try cutting with it! I'll have pictures up as soon as I figure out how.

I'm reading this thinking "What, Sam actually finished a creation?" Then I realised, it was too good to be true. How deep did you dig to find this 293? Let Sams skeletons lie, lest there be expectation for him to show us finished projects.
Cutting with a sword with a split grip hey, tsk tsk.
