Anyone have any tips of polishing sub $300 swords? If I was rich I’d send the swords to Japan, or bye me a polishing kit for $500 from Fred Lohman. I’m talking about polishing you can do at home by hand? Using really fine sandpaper around 1000 or so. Any suggestions? ;D

i haven't read that article yet, but i started to polish my cheness kaze. i started out with 800grit using windex as a lubricant and went length wise. then went to 1000, then to 2000. when using the 2000, i tried a silicon spray... well it wasn't all that great but it worked. i also tried mineral oil and that seemed to work pretty well. i'm looking for 3000 grit or some type of compound that will work. thinking of trying metal glo. right now it has a mirror finish when it's held a certian way but another way and you can still see very very light scratches. not sure if this is always going to be like this or not. hope this helps a little.

Use the hybrid polishing technique. It's proven and it works. It's pretty easy and simple to use. I had to polish a rusty wok. I used a variety of grits and I also used heavy choji oil to lubricate the pan. The pan now smells pleasently of cloves and it looks wonderful. I wish I had taken pics of before and after. However, it banged my hand up pretty bad. The knuckles were rubbed raw and it hurts to type. L.

I don't know where everyone else gets theirs; however, I buy my own here in town. Two stores keep it in stock here - Ace Hardware keeps it up to 4k and Tractor Supply keeps it up to 8k (i think).
