I recently received a sword and found the saya split in 2 places so I had to repair and re-paint it. I glued the splits and wrapped some rattan around it and decided to try something different in the way of paint. I laid down some black base coats, then a few of metalic black, then sponged some dark metalic grey in a random pattern, misted some more metailic grey of that and some more sponging, then umpteen coats of clear. I'm pretty happy with it. ;D tsukamaki by Brian at Ronin swords Anyone else got some ideas on saya finishes?

Real nice looking, it's not that often that it actually looks this good with "home made" paint jobs XD

Thanks you the pic's, I'm always on the lookout for new ideas for saya finishes as i need to repair 1 myself & the blade is nothing to speak of so cant warrant spending any money on it.
A project that "one day" i'll get around to LOL.
At one of the Iaido clubs i was at a guy bought a beaten up WW2 officers Katana as a project piece, it ended up looking great. He wrapped Gold silk thread around the Saya (two layers) & then gave it about 15 coated of lacquer with an air guy (several Sands in between layers).
Now don't laugh or cry remember this was a mass produced WW2 blade that we used to say started of life as a jeep spring he actually got a mirror polish on the once rusty blade using a watered down mix of tooth paste. Sounds weired but it worked although i don't know if i would put in the 100's of hours he did. Anyway it looked pretty sweet when finished.
