Hi all
I plan on posting a bunch of swords in the classified section so I can put together the funds for a long overdue sword purchase but first I need a little help.
I only have 2 sword boxes left because the rest were thrown out due to mold growing on them. I have 4 swords I'm looking to sell so that leaves me 2 boxes short.
Any ideas on where I could find good makeshift sword boxes for shipping?

Flower shop boxes is a good idea. Hadn't thought of that either. And if they aren't long enough, you can always cut the ends off and make two short ones into a long one.

Thanks for all the ideas guys.
Brendan-your P.V.C. piping idea is pretty innovative. I may just go that way. First I'll check all the flower shops for boxes. Call me daft, but why would flower shops have longer narrower boxes?

I was going to say shipping tubes might work, but the PVC idea is a good one.
Guitar boxes (electric) are also good.
My only worry would be to anchor it so a sudden stop doesn't mean a protruding blade.
I was planning on building a box for mine (if I ever actually get one ordered) so I can lock it up. If it turns out to be cheap and easy, I'll post.
Oh - I received something sort of sword dimensioned in an art box once. You would have to pack/pad the heck out of it, but they are cheap and you can get them at a local U-haul et al.

Go see your local gun store, they will usually have outer shipping boxes for rifles that are perfect. Also they will probably not mind when you want to see if a sword will fit, whereas the flower store might get a little edgy.
Also offer a great discount for someone to buy all 4 of your swords together - then you can put them in the box together! Cheers,
Rob

I used the pvc method to ship a sword to the states and as far as I know it all arrived safely and well packaged as I received no complaints. Then again I think it would take an elephant to flex some of Bren's blades.

Also because of the angle the USPS driver thought it was a gun. Ah well! ;D

I get boxes from whatever dumpster and make my own boxes. You don't have to be an engineer to do it - some packaging tape and a box-cutter will do the trick. I've made boxes large enough to ship all manner of swords and bows over the years and haven't had anything damaged yet.
Also, music stores have guitar/bass/speaker stand/light stand boxes which fit well in most cases with a little modification. This would be your next best bet.

A cheap plastic gun case from Wal Mart might work.

Thanks everyone. I went with guitar boxes from a music store. I'm friends with the fellas who work there and they were more than happy to get rid of their extra boxes. I like the idea about getting the boxes from florescent light bulbs and also the one about outer shipping boxes from a gun store, not to mention the safety a gun case or P.V.C. tube would give. All swell ideas. I used to do quite a bit of box making when I shipped thing from the carpentry shop to customers, so that involved making a lot of custom boxes. In this case I was just wondering if I could skip that stage and find suitable packaging that has been pre-made. All of your ideas have been great and I think I am now ready to post these swords on the classifieds. I'm saving up for a sword I should have bought a very long time ago. I have been oogling the Albion Count for years and have desided to go for it at the sacrifice of some of my existing collection. I'll post the swords soon. Thanks all!
