Not having heard about it before, I got a pamphlet in the mail a few weeks ago for the Atlanta Blade Show. Knives and swords, and over 700 vendors! I'm there! Sounded like it would make a nice weekend getaway, since its not too far away, and incorporate my love of sharp pointy objects at the same time.
Anyone been before, or plan on going this year? I'm assuming that the ratio of swords to knives is probably relatively low (not that that bothers me in the least), but it looks like some good vendors will be there as well as some interesting seminar's going on.

I've been a few times. It seems like it has gotten less and less interesting over the years, many vendors that I like don't even go anymore. It was at it's biggest in the 2004-2005 range in my opinion. Now it's more of a flea market swap meet kind of thing more than anything else. Still, there are a few vendors there you might enjoy. I think Albion will be there this year after not being there for the last couple years. MRL and CAS/Hanwei are always there as well.

The show was a pretty good time. I went only on Saturday, which, in my opinion, was enough. There were only a couple makers of interest there for me, mainly CAS/Hanwei and Albion. MRL did not seem to be in attendance this year. There were also a few makers that come up here every once in a while, including Condor Tool & Knife, Swamp Rat, RMJ Tactical and a few others.
There were a couple nice demonstrations, including a Japanese Sword Demonstration by James Williams from CAS.Hanwei involving a lot of cutting. I missed the two European martial arts demonstrations however, since they were both on Sunday.
For me the best part of the show was being able to handle pretty much every sword in Albion's lineup back to back. Having never handled an Albion before, but reading a lot about them, I can start to see what some of the fuss is all about. The guys at the booth were great. They also had a few Jody Samson's which I was able to handle.
All in all, it was a good time and worth the trip, but I don't know that I'll be going back next year.
