www.snopes.com/crime/warnings/bottlebomb.aspWow, I never thought I would have a hobby that saves lives. let's all do our part to keep this from happening by getting out our swords and cutting all the bottles we can. The more bottles we slice is less bottles that can harm folks.

A guy I went to school with and his friends made one of those. Only they used a glass bottle. when it didn't go off he went to hit it with an axe. It detonated right as he got to it, and he caught some of the glass with his jugular. I saw him the otherday, and he still has a scar across half of his neck.

Yeah, those things are problematic. I remember when I was at a panel by the state police two or three years ago, and they spent at least a good half hour showing pictures of people who had gotten injured by these things, including the people who made them and got away too slowly. Even those diet pepsi/mentos ones will take off a hand if you let it build up enough pressure.
So I agree, let's slice up every bottle we get! ;D

To this day I don't know why his response to "Hey, the bomb didn't go off, hit it with that axe" was "Okay"

Oh, I've made these I don't know how many times. Not saying it's right or that I was safe, but they are great at partys. Made a few other things as well over the years that go boom, and I still have all my fingers.....

So I agree, let's slice up every bottle we get! ;D I think cutting off the hands of whoever thinks this is a "fun prank" would be more effective.

Nah, the hands won't be enough. Now, the reproductive organs...
Got an email from my grandmother about these things. Knew about 'em before but I tend to file these things away under "bloody idiots" and pretend it doesn't exist, but if it's really getting as big as the claim...it's something to look out for, indeed.

Made a few other things as well over the years that go boom, and I still have all my fingers..... I've made the dry ice ones. Then I got the "bright" idea to add a handful of pennies to it. I got lucky some of them went right through the sheet of tin roofing I was sheltering behind. Never did that again. I still wonder how I got through my teen years without losing fingers or toes. The sad part is that it was my adult cousins that were suppossed to be supervising us for safety that taught us all the idiotic things we did.

That makes all the difference in the world.

That makes all the difference in the world. Nope, never did that. I got into it with a friend of mine years ago for putting them in peoples mailboxes. I've done some dangerous and crazy things thus far in my life, but senseless vandalism has never been one of them. Senseless explosions, binge drinking and self destructive tendancies, yes. Destroying other peoples property for a laugh, no.

I am wondering why those bottle bombs just sit there and don't go off until somebody moves them I would think the chemicals would have plenty of time to mix and explode. The fact that they can sit there like mines and explode when innocent people move them is awful The persons planting these "mines" should be treated as terrorists!

yeah, that is weird, but if we cut all the bottles we can... that is less material for the hooligans.

A dry-ice bombs and a bomb that explodes and spews an strongly basic chemical that that can peel the hyde off an large animal are two totally diffrerent things.
and as long as you put a little thought into what you do with them, like you said natural selection will take care of the rest.
