Well, damn. There goes another legend. Mr Frazetta, I salute your memory: Also, what the hell? That was 17 days ago. Why haven't I heard of it until now?

That is really tragic--I'm wondering the same thing, Anders!!!
This is news to me.
Rest in peace, FF. You were an inspiration.

It was a thread in the cafe, that's where I first heard the news.

May 10th...... --I was still on my trip in England with limited internet access. That's why I missed it! Wow. That's a blow. The man was great at what he did.

I seen and posted on this somewhere the day of his death. I thought it was here in the SBG Cafe somewhere, but perhaps it was on another board.
Any road, he was a great artist that will be missed. RIP Frank...

I really dug his art,I've been thinking of getting this tattoo on my right shoulder for years,I really dig the Death Dealer drawings frankfrazetta.org/viewimage.php?loc=axman4-lg.jpgI even kind of based my armour on the Dealer not an exact copy but staying different enough to be my own with his influence. He will be missed!!

If you own the axe in that photo, I have to wonder: Doesn't the haft seem a little too thin to be effective, especially for the weight of that axe head? I'll admit, I kind of like the design of the axe head and the weapon overall, but the haft just seems too skinny for my liking. --Edward

Actually the handle on the axe head is just a bit small but it's not round. It's flat on the top and bottom of it so it may look smaller but the grip is not to bad. The main problem is it is kind of slippery with just the stain on it.What it needs is a good wrapping in some leather or suede where you would feel comfortable holding it to get a real good grip on it.My only complaint is i dont like the 5 inch spike on the bottom,it makes me nervous swinging it with all that steel sticking out the bottom. However seeing as it was a bit over $300.00 and the film swords one (I would buy in a minute if I had the cash) is $2,300 now.

My goodness, this is the first I've heard this! I grew up on his glossies- he put out a few artbooks done on excellent stock; my Mom had gotten them when she was in college and saved them- I found them one day and she told me when I became a teen I could check them out.
I must say, Mr. Frazetti put a face to a number of my childhood heroes (Conan, Belit, Kull, Jon Carter) and his attention to detail is heretofore still unsurpassed. This is the part of growing older that I'm finding I do not like- the passing of iconic individuals that one may or may not have known an entire lifetime.

That's a shame. there is(was?) a museum at his estate in Pennsylvania where his work could be viewed. I would have like to have gotten up there while Frazetta was still around.
One of the greats, I'm glad he filled his life doing what he loved and was so good at.

This is very sad. He was a great hero to me when I was first getting into illustration. A fantastic talent who will NEVER be replaced. There is a fantastic documentary on his life and art, called Frazetta: Painting With Fire:www.imdb.com/title/tt0363621/I'm sure there's a torrent around for it somewhere. If you're a fan, you should'nt miss it.
