Greetings, Im looking for some more info on this sword if the community has any, and what it might be worth, any and all help is very appreciated! I received this sword as a gift not too long ago and I have pretty much 0 info on it, so far what ive found myself is that its a chinese liuye dao ( or at least i think ) i dont know where it was forged, however I am almost certain its made from fairly good materials, i believe the blade is carbon steel, it is sharp, and the wood scabbard is very pretty in person, its seen some use as far as i can tell which would make sense because this person was a kung fu teacher for quite some time, theres some tarnish on the last several inches of the blade towards the tip, and some of the metal fittings on the scabbard look like they were either glued back on or glued in the first place however theres no looseness to any of it in the sword or scabbard everythings very tight, the fit inside the scabbard is very snug with no rattle whatsoever, i have not attempted to take it apart or cut anything with it, it does have a blood groove Thank you!

Although I could not be certain, it looks very much like a Huanuo (Fred Chen) luiye dao. A brand new retails about $415 at seven stars trading here: www.sevenstarstrading.com/html/huanuo/I do not know how much it is worth in the open market today; as it may depend on the extent of the tarnish, as well as, usage on the blade, scabbard and hilt. Of course if the price is right, I (as well as others) might be interested ... Edit: Forget to ask...but is the blade plain carbon steel or san-mai laminated? As you can see, a san-mai retails more than double compared to the typical carbon steel.

Looks like it's seen some use. Nice though for an old blade.

Sorry for not getting back on here earlier, My computer took a header and now work is my only alternative for the moment. Thanks for the information, and to tell you the truth I have no idea if its laminated or not, is there a way to tell if it is or not? The tarnish isnt really that bad, My next order is going to be some metal glo to see if I can polish it up some. It will most likely be put up for sale here soon primarily because I think it would be better off with someone who would appreciate it more than I.
Anyways, Thanks again!
