I still cannot get my Musashi SS809BK to disassemble. I remove the mekugi, give the handle a blow using my hand as the medium, and try to pull the handle off the blade. No luck, it very stiff/won't budge.
(The older thread list the sword as the SS808BK, but Swordnation got the order wrong/shipped the SS809BK instead.
This is my older thread: /index.cgi?board=japaneseswords&action=display&thread=16369
I received a few responses: 1. The wood contracted due to temperature changes. Just wait, which I have. 2. The blade was forced into the handle causing cracks/etc. 3. My own opinion, maybe glued?
So how can I remove the tang from the handle without damaging the sword? I assume it will require some force, what is the best method. I want to disassemble it to hand polish the sword, and also to have easier maintenance when cleaning the sword..
