Anyone else been viewing a page on here, and suddenly two or three audio advertisements start blasting in the speakers? Selling toilet scrubbers and what not?
Or has my dwindling mind finally snapped it's last threads?

Or maybe it is another window or tab on your end? Are you sure these ads are coming from SBG forum pages?

I haven't had those issues but, again, pop up blocker is in place... I wonder if they're coming from SBG or not... -Slayer

I would suggest getting some anti ad stuff installed in your browser. I would not be able to stand that crap, so I installed anti ad stuff in both my safari and firefox. Don't let your internet be overtaken by crappy ads.

Oh yeah, pop-up blockers are a needed item on the www. today. No need to suffer those rude intrusions. Enable those blockers if you have them. SlayerofDarkness what does your avatar say under "SWORDS"?

Get flash blocker, then you have to click play on any flash object you want to view so you never get those annoying audio ads, it also makes pages load faster.

I had those damned audio adds intruding on my internet time once. I think it may actually be something in your computer like a virus or add-ware. No matter how many antivirus, add removing anti spyware programs I used they never ever went away. Free programs and store bought programs alike could not get ride of that worm.
Mine would pop up even when I wasn't on the web. I'd be listening to music and then out of nowhere would come these product commercials and sitcom adds. Infuriating.
I really hope this isn't the case for you. In the end the only thing I could do was leave my volume off and live with it.

There are quite a few good programs out there for removal, but unless your pretty tech savvy most people arent aware of them. Maybe i'll start a thread in the Cafe with links to some programs if people want.

Good idea celbii.
If anyone is using firefox(do ppl still use IE???) get these two addons, ABP and NOSCRIPT. Its a good combination to run together and stops a lot of the bullsemprini encountered on the net. NOSCRIPT needs the user to allow certain things a lot of the time so it takes some work on the users behalf but is well worth it.

I don't get any ad's on FF running adblocker plus. I personally hate internet explorer and take firefox over it anyday. And you can get lot of cool addons like he said adblocker plus and noscript, make alot of websites safer and ad-less. On top of that they also have addons where you can click on an image and just use your mouse wheel to zoom in even more, kinda cool when your trying to see more details on swords and stuff. edit: I posted a quick thread in the cafe with some good info.

Firefox has some great stuff to prevent this crap that invades your home through the internet. Like Better Privacy for example addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/6623/Better Privacy serves to protect against not deletable longterm cookies, a new generation of 'Super-Cookie', which silently conquered the internet. This new cookie generation offers unlimited user tracking to industry and market research. Concerning privacy Flash- and DOM Storage objects are most critical. This addon was made to make users aware of those hidden, never expiring objects and to offer an easy way to get rid of them - since browsers are unable to do that for you.
Flash-cookies (Local Shared Objects, LSO) are pieces of information placed on your computer by a Flash plugin. Those Super-Cookies are placed in central system folders and so protected from deletion. They are frequently used like standard browser cookies. Although their thread potential is much higher as of conventional cookies, only few users began to take notice of them. It is of frequent occurrence that -after a time- hundreds of those Flash-cookies reside in special folders. And they won't be deleted - never.
BetterPrivacy can stop them, . by allowing to silently remove those objects on every browser exit. So this extension becomes sort of "install and forget add-on". Usually automatic deletion is safe (no negative impact on your browsing), especially if the deletion timer is activated. The timer can delay automatic deletion for new or modified Flash-cookies which might be in use. It also allows to delete those objects immediately if desired.
With BetterPrivacy it is possible to review, protect or delete new Flash-cookies individually. Users who wish to to manage all cookies manually can disable the automatic functions. BetterPrivacy also protects against 'DOM Storage' longterm tracking, a browser feature which has been granted by the major browser manufactures.
Some flash LSO-cookie properties in short... - they are never expiring - staying on your computer for an unlimited time. - by default they offer a storage of 100 KB (compare: Usual cookies 4 KB). - browsers are not aware of those cookies, LSO's usually cannot be removed by browsers. - via Flash they can access and store highly specific personal and technical information (system, user name, files,...). - ability to send the stored information to the appropriate server, without user's permission. - flash applications do not need to be visible - there is no easy way to tell which flash-cookie sites are tracking you. - shared folders allow cross-browser tracking, LSO's work in every flash-enabled application - the company doesn't provide a user-friendly way to manage LSO's, in fact it's incredible cumbersome. - many domains and tracking companies make extensive use of flash-cookies. These cookies are not harmless.ABP (ad blocker plus) and NOSCRIPT are good ones too. Flashblock works well too.Flashblock is an extension for the Mozilla, Firefox, and Netscape browsers that takes a pessimistic approach to dealing with Macromedia Flash content on a webpage and blocks ALL Flash content from loading. It then leaves placeholders on the webpage that allow you to click to download and then view the Flash content.
Flashblock currently blocks the following content types: * Macromedia Flash * Macromedia Shockwave * Macromedia AuthorwareOr for the more seriously hating flash Flash KillerIt works under all Operating Systems, but it's interesting especially for Linux.
The Flash plugin for Linux has a painful bug, all Flash content is always covering the other elements of the page, hiding and making inaccessible other parts of the page like dropdown menus, preventing to navigate on these sites. Flash Killer remove them with one click!
Flash Killer add an item to the contextual menu, as well as an item in the Tools menu. You can remove these items in the options if you prefer. A button is available too for your toolbar. Right click on the toolbar, choose 'Customize...', drag and drop the 'Flash Killer' button.
How to put back the Flash contents? Just reload the current page .
If you desire a more radical extension, to block all Flash contents as soon as a page is loading, take a look at the FlashBlock extension.
The PrefBar extension contains too a button to eliminate the Flash, so if you use it, Flash Killer is useless. There is a lot of good stuff out there to fight these invaders. Sadly they are always trying to figure a way past what we do to protect ourselves. Though it sounds like sci-fiction they actual developed a way to beam advertisements into your head awhile back ago. I have not heard of it actually put to use, but they had talked about putting in soda vending machines. So when you walk by you get an ad to buy their product. I can only hope that this never comes to be standard use. I imagine it was considered breaking the subliminal advertising laws.

There's a reason why ~46% of internet users utilize Firefox Because the other 44% haven't figured out they can switch from the browser that came with the computer. hehehe *edit, you may notice there is a 10% missing, I am leaving that to those who use phones, TV's, etc for their internet. Most of those don't have a choice for what browser to use.

I use Google Chrome, it's the fastest loading browser I've used. I wouldn't trust Google Chrome. I have no actual info on their browser, but Google is in the information gathering business. They are gathering all sorts of info on people to better help all those advertisers. Yes Chrome is supposed to be fast, but I wouldn't trust Google with more access to what content I browse. Does Chrome let you block Flash, ads, pop ups, etc..? Does Chrome have the sort of protection add-ons that Firefox has? Firefox has a huge selection of things to protect users from various internet issues. How is Chrome on these things? I am honestly asking since I don't know what Chrome offers.

Haven't used Chrome much, although it does support extensions and allows independent developers to create extensions.
But yeah, I refuse to use Google Chrome out of principle. I already use too much of Google due to having an Android phone. No need to put all my eggs in one basket in case Google decides to screw its clientele over.
