Can someone tell me what the real use of pool noodles is please The first time I read the term I thought it was a typo for Pot Noodles ;D A picture immediately popped into my head of swordsmen on a mission to rid the world of instant junk food. Thousands of sword wielding "real food" fanatics buying up all the Pot Noodles they could find to save the public from instant obesity ;D Then I thought, can't be!! Maybe there is something special about Pot Noodles, maybe it's the sword wielders equivalent of ballistic jell . Unfortunately I then saw a picture of those foam tube things, which spoilt all my fun But I still don't know WHAT ON EARTH THEY ARE FOR So someone please put me out of my misery

Imagine long (4 -6 feet maybe?) cylindrical (4 inches in diameter) foam things that you use in the water to hold yourself up or just to float around. Fun to play around with. They are more common than trees around my place.
I guess you all don't have them in goode olde England?

They are a kids toy for around the pool or beach. They help you float and are soft enough for kids to hit each other with. They are still stiff enough to act as toy swords. I find that they make great tips for my rattan swords. I have even used them as an sound and vibration insulator under my pell.

I`ve seen them in pool supply shops over here and was going to buy some for cutting until I saw the price, wait for it,£6 each!! Who said we live in "rip off britain" I now use foam pipe insulation which can be brought in builders merchants for about £2 or less and works just as well.

...six pound? Wow, that's absurd. My store sells them for $1.50 US. Well, SOLD them for $1.50, summer swim stuffs now 25% off. Do your own math, it's 01:15 and I've had a long day.

Sorry guys, haven't done beach holidays for years, not since my daughter was 15 and she's now all growed up ;D Usually head to the hills, Africa or to Archeological sites, not much call for them there I still think Pot Noodles sound like more fun!

Whats this I've heard about people using them as cutting targets? Surely foam is a bit crap. They're inexpensive and readily available, and they are quite a challenge with a heavy sword. They are so light and flimsy they bounce out of the way if you aren't imparting a significant degree of slicing motion in your cut. So they can be quite challenging with a sword that's heavy or not particularly sharp. I don't care for them myself. Cutting them just seems so..."anti-climactic" I guess.
