Not your typical review, as this is more about fittings than the sword itself but for the katana enthusiast and cheap bastards like me here you go.
This is my first purchase from artsfeng and so far so good.
My only complaint is the Shipping and Handling, is to much money importing from china specially when you buy stuff for cheap and then you got hit with S&H charges you feel like been rip..
Ok to the point, they recommend me this user like a year ago because of me complaining about the excessive prices on fittings, but never try it for so many reasons. Specially caring on wathever i have read in this forums about quality fittings and materials, but everything or mostly everything here is more about traditional stuff than nothing specially on the materials used on the fittings.
I know iron or steel is better than cooper or brass but they want to charge a pretty penny for simple designs that they copy from museums pieces and what not. Well artsfeng do the same thing but cheaper using cheaper materials and to my findings well made and with alot of details..
A few months ago i decided to give a look again at artsfeng and i found they have this new peony tsuba which resambles one of the most beautiful ones i ever seen so far in pictures from a book, simple and elegant at the same time.
According to ArtsFeng information:
MAIN MATERIAL: COPPER
TECHNICAL: CASTING & HANDMADE
SURFACE: GOLD & SILVER PLATED
SIZE (CM):7.9X7.6X0.6
For: $22.75 Plus S&H $12 (half the price lol)
still not bad on my book for what i paid for, specially that i know that i dont gonna find this thing nowhere other than the real thing on the book which is a art piece..
This is the pictures of the real tsuba i really fall in love with from the very beginning i saw it.
This is the piece i get from artsfeng
Testing my new digital caliper very good handy tool XD
Still this pictures dont do justice XD..
There is this one side to side to the real thing, i have to resize my picture so it would look weird in the shape but is just a resize issue as to make it the same size as the real one so i can make a side to side comparisson.
As you can see is a replica from the real one, if you compare them even have the top marks (lol) on the nakago hole, a very nice good replica if you ask me and for the price and including the expensive S&H still good for what you paid for at least in this piece.
This is as close as i ever gonna make to end with a tsuba like that XD. Its not traditional made or traditional materials but is a good piece whatsoever, it have very good detailing and the material feels heavy, as heavy as my real iron lion dog tsuba and if you take this tsuba and do a good plating you will end with a beautiful tsuba.
I dont know my approach yet on how i gonna work this one, but thats for sure i want plating on this piece, as i want to conserve it.
I gonna keep an eye on Artsfeng more, to find pieces like this...
