I've never tried to take mine apart so I can't absolutely answer your question but I can tell you mine is rugged indeed. It was my first sword and despite a thin, light weight blade it's survived flubbed cuts galore and taken inches out of my cutting stand without a sign of trouble. If what you're really wanting to know is "Is this sword durable?" I can answer definitely yes. I hope that helps.

I also have this and I also have not taken it apart to see what the tang looks like.
I also agree that this is one tough blade. One swing I took I was standing too close to a concrete wall. The tip hit hard enough to chip the concrete but left not so much as a scratch on the blade.
It doesn't come all that sharp so you might have to touch up the edge a bit if you want to do some cutting with it.

The Dark Sentinel doesn't have a full tang. A guy on SFI has shorten his.
I believe the tang is around 12.5" but i have to look into that to be sure.
So it's a pretty long tang but not full-tang.

I kinda like the look of the Dark Sentinel's blade. Though, if I ever got my hands on one, I would probably not be able to resist replacing the hilt. Possibly reshape the tip as well, to tone down that last curve, but it's mostly the hilt that just doesn't do it for me.

Mine was extremely tough, although I've heard that the tang is just a couple inches shorter than the full hilt, as mentioned above, although that is common on katana as well. Mine came EXTREMELY dull, standard hanwei euor edge, so be warned, but other than that it is a fantastic weapon. Well worth $130 (old price) let alone the $80-90 they go for now. -Slayer

So, anyone know how they are put together? Pin through the tang, kinda Japanese style?
If the tang is shorter then the hilt, that's the only way I see it working.

Yep, they're pinned, but it's non removable without damaging the hilt. Notice the slightly larger studs on the grip? Yeah, voila, the pins. -Slayer

I have one and really like it. Not crazy about the stud handle - but, for under a hundred I can deal with it.
