Ok, let's have a show of hands: Who here lives in the greater Chicago area? You? You? Ok good. The rest of you can go. Now, who's been to the Kult of Athena showroom in Elgin? No?? Shame on you! Go see em! Seriously, drop what you're doing, and go pay them a visit!
I kid, I kid. I found myself in Chicago this month, with some time to kill before starting my Masters in the Fall, so on a whim I decided to pay a visit to Kult of Athena. I'd bought some swords off of their site in the past; they more toys than just about anyone else, plus killer prices, so I was pumped to see what they had in the store. Boy was I not disappointed! The first thing I said to the guy behind the counter was "Is it ok if I oogle for awhile? I promise I'll buy something!" He indulged me, that was nice of him. I was able to handle just about everything they had, and after quite some time, I walked out the door with a brand new H/T GSOW tucked happily under my arm. (Just to add my 2 cents, yeah, it's plenty flexy, no it's not whippy). Anyhow, just thought I'd share. If you're in the neighborhood, go pay them a visit. They're super nice folks, and they'll let you handle just about everything in the store if you're sweet to them. I'll tell ya, I felt like a fat kid in a candy store. I definitely plan to go see them again before too long. So should you!

Sneaky; I know what you mean. I have purchased most of the swords in my collection from KOA and they are great folks to deal with. Haven't been to their showroom unfortunately. Haven't been east of the Mississippi in several years. I have seen the pics of their showroom on their website and it looks like a sword addict's (Me) dream. ;D

You do realize that if you can get to KoA it isn't much of a trip to go pay Albion a visit too. Errr, might want to NOT take your wallet with you though..... ;D

Hmmm, I've been meaning to take a roadtrip over the border to the KOA shop (only like 12 hours away.), just have to get my passport, and check up on the rules of taking swords across the border in your car...

Glad your experience with KOA was good, sneakypete. They've been a favorite of mine for a while now too, and since I live about 4 hours away from them, I too have considered taking a drive to Chicago.A fun fact- I ordered a blade from them on a Friday one day and it arrived on Monday afternoon- a waiting time of only three days for a sword? Totally pleased was I!

I have also ordered quite a bit from KOA. Funny story. I live in Central Canada, and just last week i went on a roadtrip with 2 friends. We went down to Minn., through Wisconsin, then all the way to Chicago. We stopped by KOH on Saturday. But...they were closed. Good thing too, i would have bought something....lol

I've been there a couple times and it's true about the staff being extremely helpful. Even if they don't have it out on the shelf they will bring it out, unwrap it, and answer any questions about it. I've been there twice( Luckily I live like an hour away...). I hope to be making a third trip soon.
