I know i'm probably cluttering up this forum with questions about my old sword, sorry if it's bad forum etiquette... So this is the sword I'm wanting to fix up: it has a big crack in the wood handle starting at the crossguard. I am not sure whether this sword is threaded or peened (I imagine it's peened because the pommel has never had the slightest bit of movement) and am not sure how i would take it apart to refinish the blade and replace the handle. I'd post pics of the actual sword, but I covered the handle in sea snake skin to hide the crack. Does anyone have any knowledge or experience with this sword? It's the Iberia stamped, brass fittings, 16th century hand & a half. I would say I've had it for at least 15 years.

The pommel screws on but the old Iberia pieces were assembled with epoxy. You can heat it with a torch, the eye of a stove or a pot of boiling water to soften the epoxy, then clamp the pommel in a vice and use a crescent wrench to turn the blade and unscrew it.
You run the risk of stripping the tang or even twisting the end off if you do this, so use some care: If it seems like it's moving keep going but if it is firmly stuck heat it some more. It should feel like you are twisting a tootsie roll if the epoxy is soft enough to let go.

Oh, yes: remember - righty-tighty, lefty-loosey.

I have this sword also, did a retro review of it awhile back, seen here

Dans right, the pommel is expoxied on. But the grip on the ones I've disassembled were also filled with epoxy. So be careful when twisting the grip to loosen it; some of the tangs on these can be pretty bad. You can twist it off if its welded on like the one pictured in the above review of my friends blade.
Good luck.
