Partially (or mostly, depending on how you see it) inspired by Lunaman's [awesome] design thread, I've decided to put up a few of my own drawings/designs (call them what you will). I’m incredibly unoriginal, so I’ll try to state where I lifted some ideas for my drawings. The, uh, medium is Adobe Photoshop CS4, and I use a Wacom Bamboo Tablet. Basically, I draw the same way I would with pen and paper. I do it sort of free-hand, with no rulers and such (mostly because I’m lazy, and I have no clue what the Photoshop equivalent of a ruler would be). I probably have a bunch of unaligned, jagged lines, and asymmetrical things going on in my pics. My bad, lol. Maybe I’ll try harder to make things like having the pommels aligned, etc. in future drawings. Try to supplement with lots of imagination and maybe even close your eyes a bit. Any comments, criticism, praise, food, utter disdain, free swords, etc. would be greatly appreciated.Pre-April '10: Added 4/24/10:

This sword is probably one of the first not-as-horrendous-as-the-others-sword that I drew with my tablet. Anyways, for any of you in the know, it can be easily seen that it is heavily influenced by the Red Queen from Devil May Cry 4. Actually, it started out as a drawing of it. It just somehow changed a bit when I got to the guard and blade, I guess. Doubt this design could be very functional, but someone more knowledgeable than I would have to affirm that. I could have changed it even more, but I’m pretty lazy. I don’t intend to ever go back and change it up a bit to make it less of a flaming rip-off, so I guess it’ll have to remain a blatant copy of the Red Queen for evers and evers. This was supposed to be a Oakeshott type XIV sword. Triple fullered, of course. Don’t know if I succeeded in making it a type XIV though. Accidentally worked on it in a rather tiny resolution (is that the right word?), and that pic’s already somewhat enlarged, so the lack of detail (or quality?) is, well, because the original size was a bit smaller. The handle is wire-wrapped. It’s influenced by the Hanwei Renaissance Civilian Sword, as I had been looking at that for quite some time. Has the same Turkish knots and everything. I wonder if such a wire-wrap would be comfortable bare-handed. I don’t own any swords with a wire-wrapped handle, so I wouldn’t know. I think they look cool though. I envisioned it with a brass pommel and guard. Not quite sure if brass can be that, er, shade of bright gold/yellow though. The pommel has a sort of peen block. Looking back at the picture, it makes me think a bit of the Albion Discerner. Hawt sword, that one is. While I was drawing it, I wasn’t consciously thinking of the Discerner. I actually had originally colored the guard and pommel a sort of steel/grey, but I thought the gold looked better. I drew this one relatively recently, I think within the last two months. Still can’t quite get the blade to look… like an actually blade. Gonna need to work on that… among other things, like drawing better. LOL.

Here's a sword I just entered into the DSA sword designing contest. Stats are ' '. Don't have a sword like it, so I guessed, got random numbers and stuck 'em on, pretty much. It would be nice if I won one of the spots for it though. I'd like a bastard sword with side-rings - and was pretty pissed when Windlass discontinued that German Bastard Sword, as I had ordered one from a vendor and got a 'it's backordered' - after waiting a month or two - 'it's discontinued'. THEY SHOULD HAVE ACTUALLY HAD PHYSICALLY IN STOCK WHEN THE SITE SAID 'IN STOCK'. GAH. Even had a sort of mad dash to hunt one down at the time. Obviously I did not succeed.

I wasn't expecting much, the way you play your stuff down, but these aren't bad at all. For the most part they look like, to my inexperienced eye, they could be made real and functional and I think you're doing good work. You'll get better at this as you go and that will really be something to see. To me, easily the worst of the lot is the one from "Devil may Cry" (Whatever that is) which probably just goes to show you're better at your own stuff then copying someone else's. Have a karma.

Thank you so much for the compliments (and karma), Slakitude! It really means a lot.
Yeah, I actually really dislike the Devil May Cry influenced one. It was the first sword I drew with my new tablet (which I got last Christmas, and is the only one I have so far), and I just find it to be ugly. I put it up because, well, I didn't want to put up just one pic. I'll leave it there so maybe one day I'll look back and be like, "Man, I draw a hell lot better now than I did back then."
I do feel that I need to go back and clean up the other two. Get crisper lines and such. I'll probably draw more swords eventually, but I've been a bit busy lately (plus a general lack of inspiration).
Again, thank you for the compliments. Oh, and the karma. ;D

Obviously I did not succeed. i have this sword, actaully. Would you want me to measure something out for you? Honestly, it isn't all that well made. Well designed, yes, made well , no. The idea of a bastard sword having such a wide, flat blade is frightening. One can feel the handle moving around the tang though. Over all, good designs. The scent stopper look much better than the one the sword has. The blade's swelling near the side ring hilt is very pleasing to the eye. Your use of the opposite on the larger sword worked out well, too.
