A quick google shopping search reveals several sites that sell the Coldsteel 1917 Cutlass for about $150. But they are all out of stock! is this normal? whats going on?

I think it is a phase out of some sort. I got on the Cold Steel website and started watching their new sword promotion videos and the 1917 looks different than it used to. The point looks different. So I think they have a new version of the 1917 and maybe the old version is being sold out while the new one is in production.

I dunno, Zelder. I just took a look at the CS site and the point looks the same as the one on mine (got it almost two years ago). I know what you mean tho. The tip looked a bit odd on CS older pictures of the cutlass. Kinda put me off, I think I even mentioned it in my review. I thought it looked a lot better in person.

It's (the P1917) still in their 2010 dealer catalog so it should still be available.
FYI - Interestingly the Cold Steel P1908 Cavalry Sword has been discontinued and they wont be getting any more of those made (direct from Cold Steel rep).
Cheers,
rob
