Hey guys, My name is Tommy, I've been reading the forum for about a week now waiting for my registration to be approved, now I'm finally here!
I started collecting swords about age 13 (am 30 now), have owned lots of wallhangers and 1 functional sword (CAS brass hilt Bastard Sword), and for several years tried to convince myself I was "not that into" weapons anymore.
Unfortunately for my wallet and sanity I started working a sword booth at the new Ren Faire in the Austin area (http://www.sherwoodforestfaire.com) and it rekindled my love for things sharp and pointy.
I was lucky enough to make off with a Musashi Shirakawa katana (http://musashiswords.com/shop/product.php?productid=97&cat=4&page=1) for Zero American Dollars... My first functional Katana!
Of course I immediately discovered this site and have already constructed my own cutting stand and have started slaughtering pool noodles. I've trained martial arts for many years, although my only actual weapons training is in Chinese weapons, and even then it was only Forms, not actual cutting or sparring practice.
I've already learned a LOT from this forum and hope to be a very active member, I will post my first cutting practice video soon (it's not on Youtube yet).
Thanks for having this awesome resource out there for everyone to enjoy!

welcome to the forum Tommy. get used to getting new swords. it is habitual. my wife, upon my purchase of a new sword, hanwei cutting jian, stated, how many do we need? i thought i lost the touch, until i offered her my new United Black wakizashi. then she replied, yeah!!! I can have it!!!! oh boy!!! even she has a touch of the fever. if you are married, or have a lady friend, dont forget to get her involved in cutting, then she will be enlightened. dont get her too into it tho, or she will out spend you on swords.

Not yet, but I',m definately keen!
There is a few people from Texas on the boards, Ren fair's seem like the easy way to meet up - but maybe something else could be arranged in town.
I'd love to visit Sonny at Valiant Armoury seeing as it's only up in Dallas area but know I would spend a fortune!
Cheers, Rob
