As many of you know I like designing swords and other weaponry and I have been sitting on one for some time that I just can't get the pommel right. I figure if I ever want to sleep again I should throw it open and ask for some aid. So fellow SBG'ians lend me your wisdom; So the first thing you will notice is that this is a yatagan (how many people can say they are surprised at that revelation?!) but with an extremely rare blade shape (it's so perty!). It also has an S shaped guard with rings on either side (I blame John Lundemo for inspiring me ) but I cannot get a pommel right, I have tried many different types, including a ring but alack and alas, awesome and win is yet to be mine.

One of your grip/pommel sketches reminds me of this: Sorry I don't have anything helpful to add.

A simple eagle's claw clutching a ball would do.

In the end I changed the blade up some to fit the handle, this is the result; close up of the handle; full weapon;

Question: Have you tried actually build a mock-up out of clay or wood or cardboard? I do that sometimes. (Though, usually for grips rather then pommels.)
Drawing something that looks good at paper is one thing, but often it helps to use your hands and feel your way to a good design.
