Its attractive... not a fan of the threaded pommel on it... and I always worry a bit about the items KoA sells where you don't know who the maker/manufacturer is.

Dude, if KC makes one like that in their usual 5160 line with fulltang, pegged & 27" blade - I'd be all over it.
That one there is a 22" blade, threaded. Ew.

Ugh. That's a lot of green to shell out for a production sword. Do you know what sort of sword Garret could produce for 900$? Seriously, if you don't mind waiting for quality contact Garrett at Jin-Shi. Tell him what you're looking for, and he'll give you a great quote. Take a look at these for inspiration! That Twistcore looks yummy Previous work: tinyurl.com/previous-swordsSword options: tinyurl.com/sword-options

I wouldn't even get this one. I eyed this thing for years and finally bought it only to return it. It's not functional/sharp, but definitely a nice sight for eyes.

I love the look of Han Dynasty style jian, especially this one from Hanwei: kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=SH2385Of course the price is ridiculous, and I lack the means/willingness to pay for such an expensive sword (that's a production sword, anyways). Maybe commission something that's vaguely similar to that one, w/o the wootz and whatever else they tacked on to make it expensive. It is still really pretty though. My kind of sword, especially at that size. What some of you guys use as a normal length jian is over-sized for me, and any other hobbit-sized person lol.

If you are after a han dynasty jian and are willing to wait a couple months talk to Garrett, I am so very glad I did, the sword I am getting him from him I never thought I would own anything like it in a million years, especially for the price I am paying. Talk to Garrett the worst he can say is no right? More than likely he will say, yep not a problem.

... and I always worry a bit about the items KoA sells where you don't know who the maker/manufacturer is. Yeeeeaaaah, same. It's like, "Hey, look at that price!... Waaaaait, who the hell makes this?" If you are after a han dynasty jian and are willing to wait a couple months talk to Garrett, I am so very glad I did, the sword I am getting him from him I never thought I would own anything like it in a million years, especially for the price I am paying. I'm already waiting for something and I don't want to have a bunch of things I'm waiting for, forget about them, and then realize I need more money to pay off the credit card. That would be... inconvenient.

The wait on my Jin-Shi Han fitting jian is about 5/6 months from date of ordering till it reaches the doorstep. Your waiting period may vary. A basic Han jian is well within $300 price range. The one on mine is pretty historically accurate, handles like dream, no secondary bevel, pretty sharp and a has a mirror polish.

Nope, I wouldn't buy from a company I didn't trust or didn't know personally. As I understand it though KOA are good people who stand behind their product.

KoA are definitely good people. No hassle and unsurpassed customer service. I googled Zhejiang Jiangshi Sword Co and found their site www.jssword.com. There's an english entrance but all the description is in Chinese. On a good note, one of their swords has what seems to be white jade fittings... something I've been trying to track down other than going through Zheng Wu.

There is a sword seller (from Europe) who closed down due to issues with quality control who specifically stated Zhejiang Jiangshi Sword Co was the worst of all the sword companies and recomended not buying from them.
That said I have heard nothing else bad against them, and some of their stuff does look interesting. I would be curious to hear what someone who is not bitter about closing their store has to say about the quality of this forge.

If so, they were dealing with Zhou Zheng Wu. I contacted Jiangshi about the white jade fittings asking if I could buy them or get the contact info on who makes them. I spoke with Angela, who was very nice, but at times had communication breakdown due to language barrier. I can see this as a problem if one were to get a custom blade. Another good reason to go with Jin Shi as there's no language barrier with Garrett.

Back to the original subject. Swordguy asked about the inexpensive Han sword sold by Kultofathena, and maybe I can help. It's made in Longquan by GENS. I have one and will be getting its sister sword for a "matching set." The furnishings are lost-wax brass, antiqued. The blade appears to be folded 1095 steel. The scabbard is beautifully-grained rosewood.
This same sword sells upward to $250 or more at other online dealers. The only thing I don't like about it is the glaring "registered" "R" trademark etched on the blade. Chinese characters are fine; but as a collector of repro ancient swords, I don't need the ultra-modern pitch of an "R" rating.
