Functional, very sharp and tough. A tad heavy (well Cold Steel, no surprise) and fittings not my type. Good one for the price.
Functional, should handle the same as CS Gim, more ornate fittings. Not too shabby for price.
Functional, from the name of it, it is meant for cutting.
Not much experience on it...so I won't comment. Interesting piece though.
Not very functional, PoB seems wrong. I personally won't cut with it.
Well it is by KC...so it should be functional. Someone at KC might provide more info on it. Doubt it is the KC famous 5160 steel but no harm asking them.

Of what you have listed my first choice would be the Hanwei cutting Jian, followed by the Cold Steel offerings. The KC I have not heard anything about either good or bad. The other Hanwei offerings are NOT recommended for cutting practice according to the manufacturer.
I have not handled any of these blades personally, but I've done some research on most of them.

I own the Qi Jian. It's part of the collection I'm selling in the classifieds. It is a beautiful sword, light and quick. It's not very sharp, but it is a well made and well tempered sword. passes the flex test with ease.

If it were me I would either get the Hanwei cutting jian or see what Garrett at Jin Shi could do for that price. OR, Kris Cutlery still has some of their Gim II in stock for $125, and it's not like you could go too far wrong for that price.

KC Gim II is functional but the PoB is too large making handling way to close to the hilt . Jian of similar length have PoB about 5-6" from guard...this one is only 2" from guard. Having said that with some modification on the hilt, it should do fine. Though it seems that Hanwei cutting jian is the best one that represents antique jian at sub $300 level... And there is Jin-Shi too...

Like I mentioned in my review, the Hanwei Cutting Jian is a nice piece and the hex nut is a nice addition. It is a bit on the long side though, both blade-wise and hilt-wise.
Don't touch the Hanwei Damascus. The blade isn't very wide, tang is quite thin with extremely long threaded portion, and the hilt is not fitted to the tang. Disassembled pics are in the same review as the Hanwei Cutting Jian review.

I got to hold one from a taichi practitioner. It's light with great balance - very well put together - the usual tedious KC-anality. Great sheath. However, I was holding the 26" version. They make up to 29" I believe.
My only complain is obviously, it's not flashy. Jians should be flashy. Like with flower motifs and stuff. Chicks dig.

well this one is made from 5160 steel and I personally like the design... other than that, I know nothing about it. never heard of a review on these.... Where did you get that from and how much??? Thanks:)

My only issue (which I suppose isn't really an issue) with the Jian III is comparing it to what I could presumably get from Jin Shi for the same price. It does look nice, though. Maybe if I ever get a jian I'll see if I can check it out at KoA's showroom.

The Blue Lotus Dojo, I didn't get it. I'm speaking based solely on pics. if you want one, you could get it from kriscutlery. oh, and jin shi is famous for their swords, so try to contact them. they may make better one for the price...

I have the Cold Steel Gim... awesome blade, comes super sharp out of the box with a mirror like polish. A tad bit more heavy then it should be, perhaps, but a good sword. I have had a couple Kris Cutlery Gims, like the Gim thats for sale for 125 right now. They are solid, sharp out of the box.. but very, VERY plain looking. Even that nicer one for 275 is pretty plain looking. I'd like to pick up the new Hanwei Cutting Jian... I love the looks on it.

I just got a Hanwei Cutting Jian and I'm pretty happy with it. Only things I would really complain about is that the metal throat of the scabbard rubs on the blade, effectively dulling the edge. (I'm going to have to do some dremeling soon) The sword didn't come in a state I would call sharp, but it can still cut bottles.

Hey, I would still happily use the CS for my morning taiji although my first choice would Jin-Shi followed by the Hanwei cutter.

2 lbs 2 ounces is not that much in a sword like that and it isn't outside the realms of traditional jian according to garrett. I personally prefer jin shi.
