As far as I know, the extent of Viking armor is a helmet and perhaps some maille, but I'm not sure there was anything specific just to Vikings. We know they wore maille and helmets from grave goods, and they tended to be pretty normal Northern European/Saxon style. What exactly are you looking for?

Depends what you define as "viking" armour? Viking is not a cultural distinction, it was an actionable term which basically means to plunder, pillage and rapine, "to go a viking." With the linguistic lesson over depends on what you are after? If you want to go with Varangian Guard style armour (elite bodyguard of the emperor of constantinople) llamelar would is the most appropriate. For the most part vikings wore maille and breeches and a helmet with a shield when going into battle. They never went in for more solid form armour, even llamelar is flexible to a degree but offers amazingly good protection. You could also go for steel lames sewn into a leather jerkin. There are sites that instruct how to put llamelar together, just google llamelar or lamellar, it is often mispelled.

The viking culture is the common culture of Scandinavia from 794 to 1100 AD. We call it "The age of the vikings", vikingtida. Moondog, all you need to know initially about viking arms and armour you'll find here: www.valhs.org/history/articles/manufacturing/text/arms.htm#helmet

Great thing about playing viking is if you dont have an expensive maille shirt or byrnie your not missing out as the bloody rich warriors and jarls (chiefs) had them, a good shield is what you need, just buy the steel bosse from kultofathena.com or anywhere and look up making a viking shield, easy to get most stuff from the hardware store and good fun to DIY, a good 16gauge to heavier 14 gauge spagenhelm or germundbu (spelling) goggled spagenhelm is the way to go ......... they trusted alot more in their fighting skill then armour ........ look at the berserks

awesome. i seen a bosse shield on KoA. i think i will crawl outta my hermit hole one day when funds allow ,and make a nice shield. i am looking more into darker armors. something i vision as in between a Hexxa, an Bezerkr. kinda like modern day Goth Viking armor lol. +1 for the shield info. thanks all. arms street banner/link has some nice stuff i just noticed. not too historical. but fun nonetheless. www.armstreet.com/store/clothers/285.html i in this day and age could actually wear those robes. in Canada some call us Canadastan lol. i wouldnt be looked at as odd. it has a slight Viking/Celtic over tone to it. but armor underneath it would be ideal. maybe add some dark fur to it. bear fur or some such. edit: i dont kill bears. but in Canada its not hard to find a bear hide from somebody who knows somebody lol.
