The thingy (how's that for technical terms) in the second photo reminds me too much of the pegs used to hang light merchandise in the typical retail store. Reminds me of the horror of building a new merchandise display, or resetting an entire aisle. Spears are nice, though. I've been wanting a spear lately, myself. Not really sure what kind I'm feeling, though...the naginata or glaive seem like good candidates, but I keep coming back to a halberd or plain pole axe...then I see YOUR spearheads... In short, you're not making things easy for me, as usual.

The heroes carry swords, okay, but the wars are won with spears.

OK, Kilted one, swordsman vs spearman. Equally skilled with their weapon; one on one???
If this is a hijacking of your post, Sam, I apologize. Your metal work is awesome! Do you plan these beauties out beforehand? Drawing and all, or do you let the metal work it's own way under your hammer?

Greybeard, no, I usually have a general idea of what I want to do, and just work together with the steel sort of.
Thanks guys!

greybeard:
I think most SBG threads allow for a little bit of crosstalk, so let's go ahead and crosstalk!
One on one, the guy with the sword against the guy with the spear? I'd actually lay money on the guy with the sword. But there were never as many guys with swords as we like to think, and there were generally lots and lots of guys with spears. Spears are vastly cheaper to make compared with swords, involving less complex metallurgy, less metal, and less forge time, and a whole lot of guys with spears can be armed for the price of arming just a few, a very few, guys with swords. (At least, that's my thinking!)

Plus a spear has got a serious reach advantage compared to a sword.
Back to the point, I really like this one Sam - the gods of the forge smiled on this piece.

Sam, I like the spear points, How is that baby hammer working out? It looks like you're going to town with it.
