And here I thought this topic was going to be about How to Train Your Dragon! But seriously, Mel Gibson is making a Viking movie now? Well, if Apocalypto is any indication, it could be good!

I'm just having trouble wrapping my mind around Leonardo diCaprio as a Viking. Despite my initial qualms, I have come to regard "Leo" as a fine actor, and he has thrived in roles I wouldn't expect him to thrive in. But a fierce Scandahoovian raider? That might be a bridge too far.

I'm sure the main character will try to stay out of a war until his wife is killed, then he'll go to war for revenge while spouting platitudes about freedom.
Again

As long as we go in to it for the ride and suspend disbelief when the vikings start waving laser guns - Gibson's not known for letting historical accuracy interrupt his storytelling.

Remake of Erik the Viking? Yep, if Tim Robbins can make a good viking, anyone can.

A remake of eric the viking I could totally go with, at least the costumes looked sorta accurate.
I always say 13th Warrior could of been the greatest viking film if they had period correct clothing, armor, weapons and removed every horse......... perfect .........
Its like alot of things, I just finished watching Arn the Knight Templar 1 & 2 and had to admit it pissed all over kingdom of heaven ......... I MEAN SATURATED IT!!!!! everything was right to a tee and drooling over all the albion swords wasnt bad, and what the whole things a swedish or danish production isnt it ........... You want quality cinema with historical stuff you gotta go a little foriegn.
But hey it can go either two ways, totally off and we wont shut up about it for months after, or totally spot on AND we wont shut up about it for months after

I hope Leonardo will be the one who's killed at the beginning of the movie... (with Braveheart it was the wife/girlfriend, with Patriot the son, with Apocalypto the father, maybe the sister on this one?)

What's the name of this film and when is it due to come out?
Personally, I wouldn't mind some historical accuracy, but it's not my main concern. I just want to be entertained at a theater and not only expect to suspend my sense of reality, I look forward to it.
If I need historical accuracy, I'll watch a documentary at home.
I could do without Leo though. Probably I'll wait for this one to come out on disc.

Rumors that the movie's working title is "Avery, Viking King" can neither be confirmed nor denied.
I'm just sayin' . . . .

Hey if they kill Leo off in some spectacularly brutal way that would make it a great movie in my book alone. =)
