Howdy, gents, ladies, rogues, rascals and rapscallions:
Heck, howdy to the scallions, too!
Tonight, Turner Classic Movies is running a Mifune-fest here in America. If you've got cable, check it out! Upcoming are Rashomon, Yojimbo and the Seven Samurai, probably more to come at least through midnight.
Scratch the fleas and scoff at the believers!

I have some of those but still. I haven't seen Rashamon in years. Have you ever seen "the Outrage"? I was watching it for 10 min and couldn't figure out when I'd seen it before. For those that missed it, "The Outrage" is a Western remake of Rashamon with Paul Newman as a Mexican.

That is awesome. Some writer described Mifune as an "actor-athlete." He made those cuts look real.

I caught it from about 15 minutes in to Seven Samurai (One of my favorite movies EVAR). I recorded Yojimbo and Sanjuro and the one that came on after that (don't remember the name). I should just buy the DVDs.

HI There its my 1st post as a new member but I saw the thread and had to read on Have you watched Sword of Doom ? Mifune has a part in it and although he's not one of the main characters his fight scene is just amazing , its on youtube but the only video of the snow fight scene has nine inch nails playing over it anyway , some people dont like his performance in Seven samurai , saying its too over the top - but personally I think every time Mifune is on screen he's got one of those real star qualities that draws your attention to him the whole time. I have two parts of the Samurai trilogy with Mifune as Musashi - he was born to play that part IMO . cheers

Wilson:
Howdy and welcome aboard!
I'm a huge fan of Mifune. He benefited, obviously, from working with one of the all time great directors in Kurosawa, but Mifune was fabulous anyway. I've compared their relationship to that of John Wayne and John Ford (who I also admire tremendously).
I like your phrasing: Mifune draws your attention to him the whole time.
