See,
Look what happens when you cook the turkey legs too long!!
That's funny and sad at the same time. Hope no one was hurt.

This is a picture from last weekend of the AZ Faire that I snatched off a friend's Facebook page. This was f*cking awesome! Those guys really know how to party out there... Looks like some of the Faire-Carnies set up a meth-lad on the fair grounds... ;D

Either that or they caught it on fire due to the friction after some of the carnies turned some random fat chick into an entertainment center.

We went on Sunday, but did not really do any pics this time. The day panned out kind of oddly due to some other committments and needing to acquire some goodies for one of Laithoron's customers. We didn't get a chance to network or people watch nearly as much as we normally do, but that will change later. Probably get back there again in two weeks...

What we refer to as a gypsy is pretty much a faire worker. Many of them live a transient lifestyle, traveling from faire to faire, living out of an RV or tent, selling wares on the road. It's because they don't have a real home that they get the name gypsy. In fact, it's the exact same as a state-fair carnie, except wearing some sort of medieval or pirate garb.
Many of them lead somewhat deviant lives; as afterhours the faireground turns into their private playground where they indulge in all forms of deviance; namely centered around substance abuse and sex. It's not nearly as cool as you would think it would be, as there is alot of immorality, dishonorable, or down right criminal behavior going on behind the scenes which results in alot of people getting hurt. Jokes about swinging, missing teenage girls, rampant VD being spread, bad acid, dead beat dads, kidnappings, etc...are not overly far from the truth.
I am long-time friends with some of the more honorable faire workers - and all of them have nightmare tales to tell. In fact, one female friend of mine at the Georgia Faire is dealing with a stalking gypsy who physically tried to force himself on her not two weeks ago while she was walking on a vendor trail behind the faire. Luckily for her, she has a husband and and older male child that lives with her in the camping area.
However, most of this happens out of the public eye. If you don't look for it, you won't find it - thankfully enough...

Well, that's it for me this season. We went this last weekend, but won't be going back this year before it closes next week. I did not really find the faire enjoyable this year, and as a result, I only went twice. Prices have went up on everything, business owners / entertainers have become increasingly rude, every booth there is selling imported garbage for wares, and to be honest, it's just not as fun as it used to be. Either I am growing out of it or it's just gotten to the point in which it's surpassing my tolerance level. Any road, I am already considering if it's something I want to participate in next year - I think that I'd find living history exhibits/functions more interesting. I guess we will see what happens next year!

Thats funny, because my local ren faire was basically the same as yours. There just not as fun anymore. Same old acts and some really rude performers.

I'll go to the NC one in the fall at least once (Hopefully hook up with Avery and some others) and shall see from that experince how I feel about the faires as a whole. I was sad to see Dreagon missing from Barely Balanced. I'll try and give the new 'Large' a chance.
