tv.coldsteel.com/The title says it all, CS has some new clips to show and Mr Thompson and his pals went berzerk on some of these clips. If seeing CS president chopping down countless pounds of dead animal's meat is your thing, click ahead. Personnaly, I find some of these clips very entartaining to watch

these kinds of vids tell me nothing, there is no form, it is not realistic usage unless these guys actually load up on their cuts, it seems kind of unwieldy from watching the vids. My wraith can do all that and more with a bit of a sharpen, though you'd never flex it.

Holy crap.
I knew it was badass, but I suddenly have a renewed sense of respect about my gunstock club.

While I find the preformance demonstrations a bit questionable, I have always appreciated Cold Steel's videos for the simple reason that they show the products being handled and swung around by actual people, which I think gives a different impression then simple photographs. I really wouldn't mind if more sword producers/retailers did that. Plus, they seem to be having fun. That's nice.

Thats show-off bull-crap that i like to watch over and over again. They put a show to sell their blades, at least its a marketing effort that most blade manufacturers dont even try. It all depends on your target consumers. The company name is Cold Steel, and their products are sold based upon their toughness, they have to chop porks, cows, car hoods and anything big enough to cause an awe effect. And they succeed very well at doing it. Even if they alienate a more serious crowd that doesnt affect their sales at all since that serious crowd is not after their products anyway Anyhow, i like those vids for what they are And i'm no cold Steel fan !

I would have liked to see how well that Warrior Katana could still cut after they sawed and banged the edge on that steel table

Yep, it reminds me of the old infomercials where they sold super-ninja indestructable knives that still can cut a tomato after having cut an inch wide metal pipe.

Yeah its all about the target audience, but in some respects we should thank Lynn for creating a company and product line that sells the coolness on the basis of the toughness, HEY its better then trying to plug more wallhangers right ......... the enemy of my enemy is my friend ;P You get the odd thing thats not to bad, their stuff is good for projects

The only thing I can say favorably for Cold Steel is I wish they'd make a 4.5-5" blade OSS. I quite like the style but it's far too large for me to carry around at 8.25". I only watched the bowie thing and skipped through it, but the kid was funny.

My favorites are the ones where they do their doin's, cut open a mule with a pocket knife, stab a bowie through an engine block, whatever, then stand up straight, turn, and look right out at the camera with a macho sneer as if to say "All right, ladies, you may blow me now."

I love how they pose as if what they have done is the epitome of machismo, they are legends in their own lunch boxes.

laugh all you want, but tell me none of you would want a job where you got paid to throw tomahawks, slash large cuts of meat with swords and crush a pig skull with a war hammer. Me? Where do I sign??

I'd sign up anytime, I'd even pay to have the opportunity to cut limitless amount of tatami, hemp ropes, meat, ect

this is true, I would love the opportunity, but I'd have to cut with only cold steel stuff and that isn't good enough, they make a reasonable knife but nothing else they make impresses me.

Heh... nice! I'm not too knowledgeable about this kind of stuff, but that doesn't look like a horrible knife. I've had folders fail on me before (I've got the zebra scars on my fingers to prove it!) so I haven't been a big fan of them for awhile now... but if what they show in that video is true then I'm practically sold! Having something like that around for camping and such wouldn't be too bad actually...

Now, I'm a sword noob.. so inform me, what's not to love about the warrior katana? Price, aesthetics, weight and balance (From my personal experience. Others feel otherwise.), price, quality of fittings, price. Did I mention price?

Also, the price is ridiculous.
Sure, the videos look impressive, but they tell you very little about the blade, only about the people swingin' em. I think they are tons of fun to watch, but you have to take them with a grain of salt.
"You mean if people overpower their stroke, a piece of sharpened and hardened steel will cut through a cardboard tube??? NO WAY!!" "You mean a sword designed to cut tatami mats will cut tatami mats lots of times??? NO WAY!!" "What? A sword made of hardened tool steel will punch through a thin sheetmetal car hood??? NO WAY!!!"
Most of the "amazing cutting" (cutting ropes lots of times, etc) could be done with a comparably sharp sword from any other manufacturer that ISN'T over priced like cold steel (like a DF musha or Hanwei Raptor) and most of the "incredible abuse" the blades take is likely (IMO) due to the fact that they are overbuilt and heavy. Also, I saw those warrior katana take a set in the blade during a couple of those tests, most notably at the end. You abuse any blade like that, it won't hold up. Notice how they didn't do a test for sharpness at the end of that final gauntlet with the table and all that?
Like I said though, I LOVE watching Cold Steel promos. They are entertaining as hell, though they should not allow Lynn Thompson to speak. And quite a few of the Cold Steel swords are pretty darn nice (Like the gim sword, some of the sabers, the shamshir, the sword canes...) but they are ALL overpriced at MSRP.
