Hey guys and gals,
Newbie here. First off I love this website. It's a beacon in the effin darkness for a person like myself, and I have learned so much just reading through that I had to join. OK, that said I am trying to find some feedback from someone who has tested a United Black sword. United Black is a line of swords made by United Cutlery. Some of them are really beautiful but there are no detailed descriptions of the methods or materials used to make them, and it's like pulling teeth to find an objective product review on any of them. I figured you guys would know best.

Howdy!
Welcome aboard, in the first place. I really like SBG---it's got that 'homey' feeling that so few webfora give me.
Here's the only United Black review I know of from the site:
/index.cgi?board=swordreviews&action=display&thread=10541&page=1#169782
Generally, United Cutlery translates to SBG-ese as "run, run, run away, as fast as you can" but I was impressed by this review.
Hope this helps.

I wrote the review for the United Cutlery Black Shikyo. Worth the money as a 'light' cutter, and affordable from www.trueswords.com . --Edward

...went to the mall yesterday and saw one of these for sale for $329... I managed not to decry the shop while showing everyone in the store this listing on trueswords... I was proud of myself, that took a lot of restraint.

Can't say anything about how they perform, but in my humble opinion they're not very pretty.

Hey, Dgedinyte. Welcome aboard! Just got here recently myself and I think you're gonna like it here - good folks who know a lot and like to share their enthusiasm.
I just aquired a United Black Ikazuchi recently and I like it a lot. SirTre's review puts it very well: solid construction, good blade/edge geometry (NO secondary edge grind, oh yeah) and pretty decently sharp. United has been known mostly for selling sword-like-objects - stainless steel, plastic same, in short - junk. But they seem to have stepped it up a good deal with the "Black" line. Decent entry level, light duty cutters that aren't at all bad looking (to my eyes, anyway)
