All dressed up and no shoes, well almost still a few items to go. Seems I have over-looked an important part of my garb. "Boots" Going Cavalier. Any recommendations for a quality leather boot, maybe other items as well. Off the rack boots would be fine. Thanks Jack

Depends on what you're wearing them for. Costume or combat? Part of soft garb or part of armour?

I have been wearing this brand for a few years now: www.scaboots.com/I wear The Robin model. They are these most-comfortable boot I have worn to date, and what I see as the most bang for the buck. There are other, more-historically accurate and more comfortable boots out there, but you will pay alot more money. If you order SCA Boots, order 1 size larger than what you normally wear.

I have been wearing this brand for a few years now: www.scaboots.com/Glad to hear you endorse these. I thought I was doomed to spend $300 for a pair of boots when other options failed and I literally tripped over the SCAboot site. May not be a pair of boots that would survive daily wear, but for part time use even serious fencing use they aren't at all bad.
Secong the motion ;D

While we're on the subject, has anyone had experience with any of the boots from MRL? www.museumreplicas.com/c-51-footwear-gloves-canes.aspxThey got plenty of stylin' kicks, for good prices, I'm curious if they're just for show, or if they can handle the stress of everyday use?

I've been looking for some as well but with my shoe size I can't find any... I might have to make some myself. Other wise I'm stuck with my motorcycle boots. Don't mean to thread jack but does anyone know of any place that handles US size 17? thanks.

MRL boots suck. I have owned several pairs of them over the years, and they just can't seem to make a solid, comfortable boot. The only MRL boot that halfway worked for me is their fringe and no-fringe moccassin boots - and MRL does not make them, Minnetonka USA does. On the other hand, I am tempted to try some of the new Hanwei ones in the future: www.swordnation.com/catalog/txt_GB1780.htmlThese look pretty scrumpin'

I am wondering if anyone knows where to get a good soft-soled boot. For traipsing about in the woods, stalking prey, so they need to be pretty tough.

These are offered by my WMA school's founder: revival.us/latemedievalridingboot.aspxThey are comfortable, but a little bit on the expensive side. We use them for WMA events, but with the soft, thick, flat leather sole - they might meet your needs. I could not wear them around events because there is just too much in the way of rocks, roots, glass, etc... laying around that would ruin the boot, my foot, or both.

These are the 2nd pair of boots I bought from son of sandler www.sonofsandlar.com/?product_lineThe first pair were a pair of pesent boots in brown and were so comfie on those rocks all over the GA fair grounds that when I needed a black pair i went with a little more expensive pair,The noblemans boot in black with the flir de lies in them, more expensive than a MR pair but being hand made I think well worth it for the years I'll get from them. Again very very comfortable and should last for many years.Plus the owner Simon is a great guy to deal with.

There's also www.nativearth.net/. i 've a pair of the two button boots. Not too flashy looking, but hard wearing. My main reason for choosing them for my kit was the fact that you can specify the type of sole. My previous pair had miserable soles & my feet paid dearly. There's also the often-overlooked fact that tall boots weren't worn all the time. Add that to having big feet & thin legs.. D

Here's a tip for those with average sized feet. My boots cost me 9 quid (about $15) from Ebay, and really look the part. They're actually a pair of womens fashion boots, size 11. All i did was cut out the zip, punch some lace holes up the side, rough up the finish with fine grade sandpaper, overdye them black (they were brown to start with - didnt go with my kit) and add leather thong laces.
If you've got the front, go into any womens out-size store and check out the boots. Otherwise, use the web. There's a LOT of womens fashion styles about at the moment that are very medieval looking (at least in the UK).
