Coincidentally, I've spent a lot of time lately reading through Vagabond, the manga retelling of Musashi's story, which is ridiculously epic and full of interesting sword-related philosophy. Unfortunately, it has also made me realize that I don't really like the whole samurai-thing: most of the time I just feel sorry for them. (Especially the ones who end up fighting either Musashi or the notably godlike Kojiro. Gives the whole thing this sense of forboding doom, you know.)

I thoroughly recommend that anybody interested in Musashi read the novel "Musashi" by Eiji Yoshikawa.
