Don't mean to sound cheap here, but has anyone ever tried gluing them back together after cutting to use them again? It would also be more eco-friendly.

You know, I bet you could melt the pieces back together if you had a way of heating the ends. That would probably work better than glue or tape if you could figure out how to do it.

I'll give it a whirl with my heat gun when the snow melts off my deck. Don't want to poison myself in the basement melting plastic.

If you wait til the beginning of fall you can get them at most stores for about 40 to 60 cents each in bulk, I buy 50 at a time. They take up much needed space as do the beachmats.D

Pool noodles are cute, but from the videos I've seen: they don't look very satisfying to cut. Would I be wrong in thinking that?

Certain insulation lagging is identical to pool noodles, maybe a little denser.
I've been rolling insulation foam in a few layers of paper then using thin rubber bands to hold it on. Different types of paper create a different feel when cutting. A good thick layer of brown packing tightly wrapped around a core with a few layers of news paper on top is good.
Also you dont need to glue the parts back together. If you use a little tape then add a layer of paper then use bands it should hold together. As long as you dont cut along the exact lines then it should hold.
I used to be able to get straw matts at any £1 shop but now they seem to have disappeared. I would like to try wrapping a beech matt around a pool noodle or similar and see how it cuts.
