Man this is the funniest video ever. I love the song especially when you thought of it after seeing an Odin:) My website has none of the swords I've done in the last year or so which has been conciderable amounts. I have made Yatagan for example. Very few of my customers post and as you know I don't know how. Now I gotta hear I'm on a mutha f%#&*n Boat;)

John: the yatagan you made, was it an S-shaped or was it a more traditional concave cutting edge? It is a crying shame that your clients don't take photos of the swords you make, I am sure there are many beautiful swords you have made that are not shared with the rest of the world.

That Mr. Lundemo's clients don't take picture of his exceptional work, truly is a great shame. Once, I raise the funds for the customs I want, there will be so many pictures splattered all over the internet that people might actually get sick of seeing them. Nah, they would be Lundemo's nobody could stop drooling over them.

My understandings, with the prefatory comment that my head could be up my butt on any or all of these:
1. John Lundemo makes kick-ass swords, but he doesn't do the technology (audiovisual, internety) thing; 2. The OdinBlades website is not optimally designed to promote and advance John's swords; 3. People have different skills, abilities and aptitudes (for example, I am very pretty, but otherwise worthless); 4. OdinBlades is located in NY State; 5. John sells swords; 6. We generally use "money" to stand as a medium for evaluating exchanges; 7. Most people prefer to receive money for the services or products they offer on the market; 8. Ain't nothing wrong with barter, where goods or services are exchanged directly for goods or services; 9. There might be an individual out there who is a) a sword freak and b) does website design; therefore 10. It might be possible to find someone who could do a redesign/upgrade of the OdinBlades website in exchange for an OdinBlades sword.
When I look at the swords John Lundemo produces, I am enthused. As a sword fan, I want to see John succeed, to see him continue producing swords, and to thrive and make money at it. Given the dispersed geographic nature of the niche sword enthusiast market, the internet, the internet seems to be the key marketing tool. (This is, I think, true for a variety of niche enthusiasms, such as kilts.)
My advice is sincerely meant, but must be evaluated as to whether it's worth anything. I think the ideal solution would be to find a skilled, experienced website designer, preferably located geographically close to OdinBlades, who could trade website design and marketing advice for OdinBlades swords. Why geographically close? Apparently, Mr. Lundemo doesn't like to do extensive digital photography of his swords. (This is an observation, not an aspersion, and I hope it is not taken as an aspersion.) Even if the web-guy could only swing by OdinBlades every couple of months, that would be a plus.
I'm in awe of John Lundemo's skills. His work makes my jaw drop. When I saw the price Marc Ridgeway quoted, my jaw dropped even further: that was a dang good price. I think that with the proper exposure, Mr. Lundemo could get a good bit more money for his work. The selfish part of me regrets that---hey, I'd like to swoop a deal as much as the next fellow! The honest part of me---I'd like to think that's the bigger part----thinks that Lundemo deserves it.
Even something as simple as adding a tag line to many of the OdinBlades sword display pages, saying something like, "At today's prices, this sword would cost approximately $XXXX" would give people a better idea as to whether an OdinBlades sword was within their price range.
The "Slice Line" offer that John made here is an example. If it was featured prominently on his web page, i think it would help drive sales. Three or four pictures of OdinBlades swords, with an appropriate price, would (I think) kick start sales.
Hey, wouldn't we all love to see it happen? Wouldn't we all be bitterly disappointed if Mr. Lundemo turned to something else to put food on his table, and keep the lights on?
Just random Sunday thoughts, guys.

Mr. Lundemo does deserve more exposure. I pray for the day (within the next 48 months I hope) I can commission my own Odinblades off the designs I had Luna draw up for me.

PERFECT!! Just give him free rein!! Thats probably the best way to get a sword from Jlohn... Well, I do intend to give him a lot of free rein, but I do want an idea, no matter how broad, of what I want and then let him run with it.

Well, Marc...now you've done it to me. After reading this review and selling my beloved Glamdring, I've put in an order with John for a fantasy longsword and scabbard. Now the long, LONG wait begins.

Marc, I think you just aquired yourself a "Picasso", swordwise... or a "Mona Lisa" if you're more classically inclined... John's work goes waaaaay beyond "sword-making". The man is more of an artist than 99.9999% of the clients we cast bronze sculptures for at my place of employ. ( Which includes former presidents of the (drumroll, please) American Sculptors' Society and lots of museum and public monuments, etc.)
No semprini, that 9 bills was probably the sweetest and best investment you'll ever make. Notwithstanding the priceless value of the family heirloom-ness you built into it. Congratulations to you! +1, of course
