Now for the sticking point... the point which will leave evryonr shaking their head in disbelief .... the price.
Usually it is in poor taste to speak of price agreed upon between craftsman and commissioner, however in this case the artist has asked me to do so...
The Laird came to my door for the price of $900 .... *sprays coffy all over laptop* Goodness gracious!...Well, actually, that's still slightly more then I'm comfortable with spending on a sword. Still, it gives me more hope for my "let someone else make the blade and do the rest yourself" idea.

That's a most beautiful sword. Stunning really... I would categorize it as a Type XIIa. Seems to have all the features, based on the photos. But photos can be deceiving?...

Heh Heh... Nothing quite like a little Father-Son banter to bring some levity to the forums... BTW Marc: Methinks your Kid is a chip off the ol block.

would be nice if john could put a basic price list on his site for the swords he has already made so that we have some idea of what costs what.

Would be nice too if he updates his website, he made lots of wonderful swords that arent there. But i always have in mind that John's prices were totally out of my league, now after seeing what he did for Marc i'm not only blown away by the craftsmanship but also by the fact that he charges what i think should be charged. That was a real eye opener for me and Marc's statement about production vs custom was the crucial point of this review IMO. That by the way also re-enforced my position about Albion's offerings ( I have to say that even then I have a Gaddjalth expected to be delivered somewhere this month, that might change my mind, or make me sell it to get a custom ! I had to try even i f handled some its never like owning one, that was the only way to be sure or to satisfy my compulsive sword-buying behavior)

I'm personally more interested in customs and like everyone else I was under the assumption that john was out of my price range (to some extent he is) besides the slice deal that he mentioned last year which in itself is great. There are many swords on john's site I would love to get my hands on, he really needs to make a yatagan
