Greetings all, I've been trying (in vain) for going on 3 days now to get a hold of someone at Strongblade to discuss a defective sharp pointy. I've sent an e-mail to their cust. serv. dept. and called twice. Does anyone know what the turnaround rate is there for their customer service dept.? If it's like a week then I'll stop freaking out if not, Any advice or strongblade contact info would be great Thanks much Tibbs

Which email did you try? They have two or three if I remember correctly, but they really only look at one of them on a regular basis.

I've got an email for a fella named Roberto, but have no idea if he still works there as this address is about a year old. You can give it a try or do what I did and just give them a call. Heres the email address that I have =
roberto <rrodriguez@strongblade.com>
I'd say calling would be your best bet though. Good luck.

I hope you can contact them in someway. It frustrates me to no end when customer service isn't providing any customer service. Let us know who and when and if you contact them too.

Okay, so there are a couple addresses, looking back at my own email. I sent them an email to the info@strongblade.com address and never got a response. However, when I sent one to service@strongblade.com they got back to me in a day. Of course this was a while ago. Good luck! Do they have a phone number? I would try that next.

Well, the faulty sword is on its way back and I await the replacement. It's not going to be the same one I ordered which was the Shadow-ward bastard sword. Beautiful weapon, true full tang good steel, unfortunately it has an aluminum guard . The trade is going to be the Deathbringer bastard sword untempered version. I've got another untempered sword of theirs and for being untempered, it's damn tough and I'm quite happy with it. Thanks to all for the replies and thoughts. Take care Tibbs

Good news all. The exchange sword just arrived and I was very pleasantly surprised. The replacement I asked for was the un-tempered version and low and behold, I was sent the tempered version (very cool ;D). Another bonus is that it is a true full tang weapon, no welds at all between the tang & threaded portion the threads are cut directly onto the tang, which is quite stout. As such, my good friend JB Weld was applied to the threads and everything tightened down. Very, very happy with the prompt service from Strongblade. Thank you very much to Roberto and the entire Strongblade staff. I can't wait to be able to order from them again.

Sorry it's taken so long to reply but here it goes. The best materials in my opinion to use for a sword guard would be #1 steel, #2 brass, #3 bronze. Steel due to the fact it can take alot of punishment, doesn't bend very easily under stress, and is in general better suited to protect the hand, but it is prone to rusting if not properly cared for. Brass is also good because though it is a soft metal, it is actually very resilient to damage,(as long as the casting is good and no impurities exist in the brass itself), it is also more or less impervious to wet weather, it doesn't rust, rot, or degrade like steel. Many of the swords I spar with have brass guards and they haven't failed. Bronze is also a tough material for use in sword guards but seeing as I don't currently have any bronze mounted sharp-pointy objects, I can't say for certain how well the bronze holds up to sparring contact. (Whew ) Now we finally come to aluminum. This material is very poorly suited for proper hand protection due its extremely soft or very brittle composition. Very easily bent, prone to breaking, and not able to take the punishment associated with sparring. The only way I could see aluminum being good to use was if it were cut from 6061 or 6062 aircraft grade aluminum and properly heat treated. Even then, who knows. Now if it were ONLY to be used on a cutting sword then it would probably be fine as long as the hilt is not smacked on the intended target or the cutting stand. It is also a very lightweight metal, and as such, would put the point of balance more to wards the blade resulting in a very blade heavy weapon, steel, brass, or bronze are heavier and will balance the blade much better. Sorry for the long winded reply and also for taking so long to get back. Hope this helps Take care Tibbs
